Tragic Plane Crash Kills Two Local Aviators

In Barstow area on a Wednesday morning, Carl Arends and Fulton Slaton died when their plane crashed after entering an air pocket during early flight. Slaton died at Desertaire Sanitarium, while Arends was crushed beneath the engine. The coroner later said the loss of control was due to stunt flying, not the aircraft defect.

Carl Arends Rites Set After Plane Crash Death

Carl Arends twenty one year old son of Mr and Mrs C F Arends died Wednesday morning when the airplane he rode in crashed. He will be laid to rest in Barstow cemetery with funeral services Friday at 3 p m at the Congregation Church.

Adolph Steiner Killed in Auto Accident

Adolph Steiner, former Jewish rabbi of Salt Lake City, was crushed to death when the automobile he was driving overturned. Eugene N. Rosenberg, his companion, was rushed to Desertaire Sanitarium by Dr. Graham of Barstow. He left the hospital Wednesday and returned to Los Angeles. Spur Track To Western Borax Connects Amargosa District

Art Doran is awarded the contract to grade 4000 feet for a spur track by the Santa Fe. The line will join the Pacific Coast Borax spur at Amargosa near Kramer and serve the Western Borax Company. A 700 foot shaft is down with bunk houses and permanent buildings rising. The district hosts the world’s largest borax deposit, about 40 miles west of Barstow, served by the Santa Fe railway and the Southern Sierras Power Co.

Barstow Ball Club Joins Regional League

Pray family trip includes Flint visit and ball game stop
