Barstow Union High School wrapped up commencement week with diplomas, a Cadman keynote on If, and flowers for graduates. The Junior Senior Banquet featured toasts by Elinor Funk and others, while teacher clubs and senior sermons also marked the celebrations.
The Ship Cafe Orchestra, famed in Venice, will perform for a Barstow dance on Monday night June 16. People from Victorville Oro Grande Daggett Verma Hinkley and Rand district are expected to attend as the district enjoys top music and dancing. Tickets cost 1.50 for gentlemen and 0.50 for extra ladies.
Yermo residents announce a large Fourth of July program with contests against Barstow, races, a tug of war, a pie eating and greased pig contest, and an open air dance. The Barstow Santa Fe Band will provide music and admission for gentlemen is one dollar for ball game, barbecue, dance, and daylong entertainments.
The First Bank of Johannesburg relocates to the new Jewell building in Randsburg. Mr Jewell of the Jewell Commercial Company built the structure. George W. Anderson serves as cashier as the bank plans to change its name later. The community notes a few residents preparing summer departures and local school activities with a Monday assembly and student talks.
W G McAdoo likely to head the Democratic ticket will arrive in Barstow Saturday on the first section of the limited train. He is due at 38:90 and locals expect a platform speech at the Santa Fe depot during the short stop, as he has many personal friends here.

The County Farm Bureau hosts its annual picnic at Camp Cajon on Saturday June 14 with attendees from across the county. The schedule features the Chaffey Union High School Band, a directors meeting, and talks by H S Whitte Edwards Peters Wilder Bristol and others, plus community songs and a farmers-friendly legislative discussion.
Congregational notes report 109 attendees at Sunday Bible Study, with 50 in the Primary Department. Children performed on stage for Children’s Day and a special sermon is planned for the 15th by Pastor McRae.
Commencement exercises at Barstow Union High School filled the auditorium as graduates received diplomas from Mrs Hill. Dr Paul Cadman of the University of California delivered the address, praising the graduates and faculty while commenting on Mojave desert outdoors.
Dr A Grimes sells his stucco bungalow to Mr and Mrs Chas BE Williams and HW WH Wall of Los Angeles. Santa Fe mechanical superintendent left on 1S for Phoenix Tuesday. The Southern California Editorial Association plans a Catalina summer outing June 20 to 28. Mrs Pendleton called to Pomona for her母 mother’s illness. Mr and Mrs Frank Conrad of Altoona PA visiting Barstow and may move here. Mr Marsh of Victorville visited Barstow Wednesday. Mr Manish is cashier of the First National Bank of Victorville. Mrs Paul Martin and baby returned from Oklahoma after weeks visiting relatives.
Miss Verda Haws spent the week end in Los Angeles with relatives. Mrs Farrington of FE Monte arrived Saturday to enjoy a few days visit with friends in Bairstow and Myr Farrington.
E. A. Farrington and his wife will return to Barstow Union High School next term after winding up affairs here and moving back to El Monte where the Farringtons have resided for ten years. He served eight years as principal of El Monte High School and supervising principal of grammar schools, with no evidence of out of town procurement for school supplies during that period.
Tonopah and Tidewater Railroad Co operating between Luclon California and Beatty Nevada reports 1923 revenue of 557330.38 with expenses of 266361.93 producing a net operating total of 270968.45 Miscellaneous non operating revenue adds 8402.36 while interest rent taxes and other deductions total 279370.81 The year begins with a deficit of 1228788.449 and miscellaneous additions to surplus reach 1167.64 with deductions of 1910. End year accumulated deficit stands at 1229540.85.
Last night the Barstow grammar school graduation featured a musical and literary program in the auditorium. Prof E Barnes of Redlands High delivered an engaging address as sixteen graduates received diplomas. Each student received four carnations and a handkerchief from A H Pendleton and Mrs Lillian Jones, as the Parent Teacher Association hosted a reception afterward.
