Barstow Decoration Day Honors Local Graves

Mrs. Bennett and daughter Carrie FE Bennett of Cottonwood arrived in Barstow with flowers to decorate the graves of Frank Bennett and other fallen townsfolk. Mrs Henderson joined them and found Barstow children had covered Scotty Bennett’s grave with evergreen as a momento.

Horseman Hurt Handling Tillis Horses at Mojave

Oscar Anderson lost control of a line while guiding Tillis horses at Mojave on Monday. He was jammed against a wagon wheel, injuring his jaw and ribs. He was treated by Dr. Linhart in Barstow and will take a short Bear Valley vacation to recover.

Baby Kicked by Horse While Playing Marbles

The youngest child of Mr. and Mrs. Phil Hedrick was kicked in the head by their horse while children played marbles in the yard behind the store. The skull was fractured and the boy ran to fetch a marble near the horse. The animal, usually gentle, frightened by the boy. He was treated by Dr. Anderson and his condition improved to good.

Improvement Work and Water Wells in Todd District

L. W. Yeary and son completed a 25 foot water shaft with redwood casing and plan to drill 20 acres of alfalfa this fall while testing wheat and barley. Walker report a 68 foot well yielding about 100 inches of water. R. L. Toler works 160 acre homestead with 10 acres cleared and a new 70 foot well. Yeary travels to Los Angeles for desert claim proof.

Heavy Passenger Traffic on Santa Fe Train in Barstow

The Santa Fe Limited No. 3 arrived on time in Barstow with 136 eastbound passengers and over 100 bound for Los Angeles. Officials say heavy passenger business is unusual for this season and expect several extra trains this month.

Fire damages Needles bank building early Monday

Fire at the new Monaghan and Murphy Bank Building caused about 12000 in damage near oil cans on the upper floors. The blaze started around 1 50 a m and spread downward, with extensive plumbing and interior work needing renewal.
