Barstow California edition dated Friday June 2 1911 presents local notices and community news from Barstow and Mohave River Valley. The brief contains town updates, column items, and a numbered issue listing.
Local items report J T Swain and wife in Los Angeles for summer and Harry Barr visiting his daughter near Bakersfield. Barstow bank prospects and nearby acre tracts for sale. Calls to talk to T G Nicklin and C E Johnson on commerce and local show windows. Dillingham's new building for post office slated June 15 with new boxes and safety features.
The Ladies of the Catholic church authorize the Barstow Printer to thank the public for liberal patronage at the church dance and ice cream social held for church benefit. Plans for the new church may be seen in the Barstow Drug Store show window and will be built near the school house.
Oil News reports manager Hutchison has resumed drilling at the Chicago Oil Co. well north of Barstow. The crew is down 600 feet and says energy and good prospects fuel the operation.
Cottonwood resident J. W. O Day plans soon to work turquoise mines at Cottonwood after a guest stay at the Inez. M J Smith reports strong development on the Golden Eagle Group near Williams with high grade ore and veins from one to four feet wide. G W Teennies and M W H Williams have filed favorable mine reports. Ranchers seek buyers with livestock and farming gear for quick sale by Chas Morgan Victorville. Also listings for a fine 1200 pound buggy horse at 125 dollars with harness and cart from R V M Halleck.
About 80 miners work at the Atolia tungsten mines where ore yields five to six percent with some higher grade. Pure tungsten today values around $900 per ton, all shipped to Pittsburgh Iron Works. The mine above has closed briefly for unstated reasons, not due to ore shortage.
