Kingman man fined and banned from driving for 96 days

Allen Floyd faced Judge Miller in Kingman this week on a speeding charge. He was found guilty and prohibited from driving for 96 days with a warning that a repeat offense would bring a harsher penalty. Floyd arrived in Barstow later that evening driving his car Sir Henry, noted for its non working lights as it headed up Main Street.

Goldstone mining activity underway with new claims

Schew has purchased the War Eagle property in Goldstone and will begin developing the mine next week. He has also taken a claim and will work both properties. George Drumm and associates report a 15 hp hoist and air compressor, sinking to 300 feet with three feet of $20 ore at 270 feet. Goldstone Mining Company expects to start operations after the hot weather, with two weeks of $100 ore in sight and shipping possible this fall.

Amboy Residents Foil Benders Homestead Attempt

Amboy residents opposed Joseph M. Bender's bid to homestead 160 acres including the town. Los Angeles disallowed the entry after petitions to the general land office. The land lies in San Bernardino County with mineral and salt deposits. Bender had been allowed township filing but did not pursue it.

A blaze in Mojave Saturday evening destroyed seven residences with origin undetermined. The fire started about five o'clock, and Archie Houch, a former Barstow resident, lived in one of the homes burned.
