Ezra Meeker Runs for Washington Representative Seat

Ezra Meeker, aged ninety four, announced plans to file petitions as a candidate for representative from Washington’s Forty-seventh district. He seeks to back the Naches Pass highway project and oppose a state highway through Chinook pass. Meeker, famed pioneer, crossed the continent by ox and is father of Dad Meeker of Camp Cajon store, noted host on the National Old Trail route.

Californians Take 9000 Mile Rail Tour On Special Train

A special train carried 150 Californians from San Francisco on July 24 for a 9000 mile journey through the United States and Canada. Lieut. R. C. Carrier and F. F. Kelly, after a trip to the northern state, encountered engine trouble in an army plane and were forced to land Tuesday morning at Hinkley. They left the plane there, rode the Santa Fe to Los Angeles, secured new parts, and returned to town today ready to attempt another flight.

Watermelon shipments from Delano reach Portland and beyond

Thirty carloads of watermelons per day were shipped from Delano with most going to Portland Seattle and Spokane. A total of 600 carloads will be shipped before the season ends. The Imperial valley cantaloupe season peaked on June 12 at 535 cars, compared with 529 last year on June 20. Anthrax outbreaks were reported in three Yuba county cattle herds with six of nine infected animals dying. There are 6 000 acres of sugar beets in Clarksburg Hollandon districts west of Sacramento. The first carload shipments of cantaloupes left Delano and Waser on July 2 with one car from each district.
