Opal Mines Foreman Seeks New Cutting Plant Near Barstow
Opal mines 20 miles north of Barstow run by American Opal Co with foreman John Samenfeld visiting town. A new plant from New York will cut rough gems at the site before sending to a Pasadena polisher. Mines sit at 3500 feet in volcanic country with opals formed by heat and water. Shaft at 140 feet deep. water level reached as vein bears. Manager A Ferguson lives in Pasadena.
