Mining news from Randsburg reports a surge of investment interest in the Mojave Desert ore districts with elixir hopes of new development. A clash over a diamond drill at the Kelly mine sparked a court warning and a dangerous accident left a Spanish worker severely injured, raising questions about mine frontiers and management.
California agricultural groups representing about 75 000 farmers join with almond growers to urge Ways and Means to amend the tariff bill. They demand 5 cents a pound on unshelled almonds and 15 cents on shelled almonds to save 7 000 000 trees across 100 000 acres in the state.
The Railroad Age argues that calls to cut railroad rates ignore tax costs on freight and passenger transportation.
