Barstow gains a modern ice plant capable of 300 cakes daily with electrically powered machinery. Treated water yields clear ice of the finest grade as six cars load simultaneously. The Santa Fe team of Barstow played a strong game Sunday July 2 and defeated Yermo 8 to 1. They met Yermo again Monday July 4 and won 21 to 2.

Death of John C. Wray Newsman and California miner

John C. Wray died June 25 at a hospital near Osdick at about 78. A veteran newspaper man, he wrote for the Los Angeles Times in the early 1880s and ran a San Pedro paper. He located the Coyote claim beside Rand Silver, fueling publicity amid Keily and Coyote lawsuits and contributed to the Printer during the Rand silver boom.

The Barstow Helendale division completed oiling between Victorville Barstow and Daggett using a new mix of oil and gravel. The experiment reduced cost to under 1100 dollars per mile versus over 22 thousand per mile for the Victorville to summit route.
