Ann Cunningham led the Mount Vernon Ladies' Association to save Washington's home. She built a nationwide movement, endured illness, and persuaded Edward Everett to donate funds. Despite Washington's refusals, the group raised most of $200,000 by 1859, securing possession on February 22, 1860.
