Los Angeles Syndicate Buys Desert Ranch and Forms Helendale Orchards

A Los Angeles syndicate bought the Helendale Rancho from Pacific Ranchands Co and formed Helendale Orchards Inc with 390000 in stock and 100000 in bonds. The 1400 acre holdings include McNew Ranch, largest commercial pear orchard in the Mojave Valley, with 1921 pear stock stored for later sale and a New York Bartlet car at auction fetching 1044 cents per pound. Mr. Merrell to lead development, plans include a 200 cow dairy plant and expanded mixed fruit operations.

In Rand District C C Jewell of Jewell Commercial at Randburg expands shop offerings to miners and auto supplies at The Miners Supply Store and Auto Supply House. Mining Development Work In the Kelso District

Earl Brooks of Los Angeles visited Barstow after weeks in the Kelso district overseeing mining claims in which he and others are financially interested. As treasurer of Providence Mining Co. the outlook is promising with assays of $32.20 in silver and $25.60 in gold and deeper work planned. A hoist has been installed, shaft 125 feet deep with 75 feet more to sink, and a 400 foot tunnel. The vein runs nine feet and ore will be treated by flotation. The Kelso district lies seven miles from the Salt Lake railroad and three other Providence properties are operating nearby. Indications point to a desert mining revival boosted by the Kelly mine’s influence.

Tax Forms Available January 18 for 1921 Returns

Forms 1040 for incomes $5000 and under will be ready January 18 at the Collector of Internal Revenue office in the Federal Building Los Angeles and branch offices in Santa Barbara San Bernardino and San Diego. Taxpayers who filed last year will receive a copy by mail but failure to receive it does not excuse filing by March 15 1922. The form has been reduced to four pages with two pages of instructions to aid correct filing.
