At the January 8 meeting of the Co operative Association Los Angeles company Layne and Bowler said a deep well rig will be brought to the Hinkley valley. New officers were elected for the year. Desert claim activity includes Daggett residents KE Harris moving in and housing work nearby.
In a Mojave valley case, the district court of appeals reversed Judge Oster and ruled in favor of J. B. Bledsoe in the 1909 suit against W. H. Robinson and J. T. Bennette over possession of the Flowing Wells water place west of the Mojave river. All parties are noted Mojave cattle raisers.

The Shawn-Gould Co. presented an entertainment and exhibition of dances in great variety at the Santa Fe reading room on Monday night. It was a good show overall though some numbers were poorly done. Alleged singing accompanied the dances, with examples ranging from ancient steps to modern tango and hesitation waltz.
The Santals practice betrothal through a cloth gift from the groom’s friends after parental agreement. A payment follows, marking binding down the thatch, and a wedding date is set. Each side ties knots on a string for days until the wedding, finally untying then tying a final knot to seal the union.
