The Western Federation of Miners buried 59 people in Calumet Michigan including 44 children after the Christmas Eve panic in Italian Hall. A funeral procession with hundreds of union members and singers marched to a snow covered cemetery by Lake Superior. Speakers praised the victims as martyrs to unionism and blamed mine managers for the tragedy.

Gatun Spillway Opens As Lake Rises Near Crest
The Gatun spillway was opened for the first time since June 27 to release water and prevent rising levels in Gatun Lake. Water climbed from 48.5 to 84.7 feet above sea level, nearing the 87 foot maximum. Because rim diking isn’t finished, no higher levels will be allowed. one spillway gate will operate daily for about an hour to maintain containment.

Gate City Hotel Co selects Wm. C. Eagon as the new manager of the Hotel Stewart in San Bernardino. Twenty two Chinese inmates from the State Insane Asylum will be taken from Portland to Seattle and aboard the steamship Minnesota bound for Hongkong.
