Higgins Welcomes Daughter as Harris Family Reports Baby Boy

A daughter was born Thursday February 22 to Mr and Mrs J M Higgins with Dr Anderson officiating. Earlier a baby boy arrived at the home of G T Harris on Tuesday with Dr Anderson again officiating.

Rain scarcity devastates grain crop along coast

Water tank complete and double track work under way

Judson Helen Santa Fe finished a 160000 gallon water tank for Helen station and workers lay cement abutments and steel girders for double track at all culverts between Helen and Oro Grande. Salt Lake Route Eyeing Gap Fill from Otis to Colton

Maps and stakes show the Salt Lake may fill the Otis Daggett to Colton gap by following Mohave river past Barstow on mesa north crossing Santa Fe west of Mace and turning southwest west of Cottonwood Judson Oro Grande Victorville and Hesperia. The route avoids rough river country and could open a new agricultural zone. Printer notes a five year Salt Lake Santa Fe contract and invites further information on surveys.

Salt Lake Route Surveyed Near Victorville Status

Land office blue prints show the Salt Lake route surveyed about six miles west of Victorville. The Barstow to S. B. distance would be shortened by about ten miles due to the Santa Fe curve east of Victorville. The line would pass through ranching country, be watered by Arrowhead Co., near a new electric power line, and likely reach resorts north of Old Baldy.

Otis Yermo Survey and Local Happenings Update

Three surveys examined routes from Otis toward San Bernardino with Barstow oil fields and Swarthout pass, the best requiring a 1% mile tunnel. Other surveys run Flynn to Redlands and another to near Hesperia then Swarthout pass. Water strike at 15 feet on Wm A Hunter’s ranch. 40 feet water possible. Apricot blooms on McCormick ranch. Frakes brothers visited town. Yermo Club dance successful. Burro club planned in Otis. Mrs Watson back from Los Angeles visit. Tofft sells restaurant interests and moves to L A.
