Christmas Day Festivities Warm Superior Valley

A Christmas Day feast at the schoolhouse drew nearly all residents, with a bountiful menu prepared by local women and entertainment by Seaberg Pence Hopkinson Reynolds and others. Gifts, a grease wood tree, and dancing capped a memorable holiday. visitors included Hermon Reynolds and Mr. Bay, while Postmaster Drummond was reported ill.

Christmas at Harper Lake Valley Homestead

The Harper Lake Valley household shared Christmas dinner with extended family including Mrs Theaker and Mr Farwell, plus Mr and Mrs Dingman of Whittier. A well drilling rig has been purchased for Elliott well. Fred W. Cole reports he will move onto the old Shepherd place soon. Residents count 18 school age children and plan to organize a new school district.

Ryerson's Store Burglarized in Daggett Night

The Daggett general store of Homer Ryerson was burglarized Tuesday night. The safe was blown open and $1500 in cash and Liberty bonds stolen. Intruders bored through the rear door lock. explosion timed near a passenger train at 1 45 a.m. A Daggett telegraph operator heard the blast and investigators found signs outside the store. Burglars likely fled with khaki wool shirts, shoes, underwear, and pocket knives, using a car outside town. Sheriff alerted for fingerprint work.

Yermo Hosts Christmas Fest and Land Moves

Yermo residents enjoyed a successful Christmas event with toys fruits and a town supper and dance at Mrs J Frances home. Tom Williams and helpers have spent a week tidying town and the Williams couple have acquired Camp Cady lands totaling about 1460 acres with running water and fencing planned. Iverson, a nearby homesteader, gifted sorgum syrup produced from 10 acres with plans to expand to 40 acres next year.

Water notes on Christmas turkey demand and local visits

Christmas turkey demand was strong as the market stayed well supplied from the vicinity. Local residents and visitors including J. P. Calkins and family, Mrs. Calkins' mother, W. Whisnant and daughter from Cleveland, J. D. Idal and mother, Mrs. Idal from Salt Lake City, H. G. Tienken and family from Porterville, and others spent the holiday at Pomona or with relatives, with several dinners and visits to Fresno and Ince studios noted.

Christmas town events brighten Barstow week

Christmas tree exercises at Congregational church delighted old and young. Barstow hosted a busy Christmas with a Yama Yama dance at Liberty Theatre and a full house for "The Devil's Pass Key" at Liberty Theatre along with "The Rivers End" at Victory Theatres. Local residents and visitors from Needles, Salt Lake City, Bakersfield, Los Angeles, and San Bernardino joined festivities and travel to Pasadena for the Tournament of Roses and football game.

Special Officer Captures Married to Marie Van Horn

Barstow notes unite W. L. Hatherley and Marie Van Horn of Kansas City in a December 28 ceremony at Judge Carter’s Barstow home. The groom, a San Bernardino native long serving as a popular officer, was previously warned of danger at the Santa Fe station but surrendered to a bow and arrow threat. Congratulations pour in for the newlyweds and a happy new year.

The New Liberty theatre will premiere Humoresque on New Year's night. A story of a music loving lad, his devoted mother, and a rich girl who stands by him in poverty and crisis, with plenty of laughs and strong pathos.

Alaska copper boom lifts mineral output to new high

Alaska’s total mineral production rose from 19.62 million dollars in 1919 to 22.07 million in 1920, lifting territory output to 460.6 million with over half in the last decade. The gain stems from copper, rising from 47.2 million pounds valued at 8.78 million to about 72 million pounds valued at 12.4 million in 1920, reaching a copper total of 616.2 million pounds worth 127 million.
