Oil firms ship drilling gear to Hawes for new field
Hawes oil fields receive five carloads of drilling equipment by North American Petroleum Co of Los Angeles. Thomas Box organized the company with R. C. Audre handling management. Attorney Alfred Ruiz of Gallup, New Mexico, traveled to Caliente, Nevada, where his son Frank was shot by a Mexican. Frank, formerly of Barstow, moved to Los Angeles with his wife a year ago and Telegrams say he was fatally shot.

Mining Activity Reports Near Barstow and Copper City
W H Brown and S P Stevenson are doing assessment work on the Black Hawk group one and one half miles west of Barstow and are reported to have struck $300 in a three foot ledge. Dr Slocum and wife have taken out three loads of mining timbers to their Copper City property about 35 miles north of Barstow. A crew of five miners are at work. Tom Reed mine of Gold Roads produced $57,000 in gold in October. Ore runs from $20 to $40 per ton.
