Governor Mabey Visits Barstow on Highway Delegation
Governor Charles R. Mabey and a Utah party arrived in Barstow after an inspection trip along the Arrowhead Trail and part of the National Old Trails Highway. The Barstow meeting included Ralph Swing as chairman and featured officials from San Bernardino County and the California Highway Commission as they discussed a proposed 60 mile shorter cutoff to connect Las Vegas Barstow San Bernardino and Los Angeles.

The Yermo School Board plans a New Year’s Eve box social and dance to fund furniture for the new concrete grammar school near completion. Proceeds fund an auditorium piano. lower floor will be auditorium, upper floors classrooms. Trustees Tom Williams PD D Connell and J Grimmer praised the project benefiting the taxpaying community. Two teachers Mrs Cora Smith and Miss Gertrude Goering, who teaches the high school freshman class, serve Yer go. The school sits in the northeast part of town.

Boy Seriously Injured Coming From School
Litle Virgil Hartup six year old son of Mr and Mrs C P Hartup met a very serious accident this week on his first day at school. He was returning home east of Barstow Garage when running down the incline west of the viaduct he ran in front of a car driven by Miss Sarah Higgins. The impact knocked him down and he was run over but is now recovering with Dr Pratt reporting he is out of danger. He suffered head contusions leg and shoulder bruises and ruptured blood vessels in the stomach causing significant blood loss.

Enjoying Winter Snows in Big Bear Valley
Big Bear Valley enjoyed Thanksgiving snow with 4 to 8 inches in places as visitors from Southern California stayed from Thursday through Sunday. John Lowe's resort cabins were full and the Lowe store will stay open all winter while M and Mrs. Bob Lacey run a mountain camp. Hunters and geese were seen on Baldwin Lake area, and locals advised carrying chains in case roads stayed icy.
