The Santa Fe railroad entertained a full Reading Room audience Monday evening with a traveling ladies quartet, pianoist, and elocutionist. All vocal, literary, and instrumental numbers drew applause, as Barstow benefits from free performances weekly through the winter and hoped to continue into summer.
North Siders Entertain With Dancing Party
The North Side residents held a dancing party in Fletcher hall last Friday night. Guests enjoyed old round dances, a midnight luncheon, and continued dancing with music by Charley Brass James Honey Mrs E L Standfield and Jack Warner.

Navy Recruits Stop in Barstow on Way to San Francisco
About 210 navy recruits halted in Barstow for an hour Monday evening, receiving a hearty welcome from townspeople. The group, led by one officer, had been recruited in the east and sent to San Diego, then ordered to San Francisco to join the bay city. They appeared mainly in their teens and carried high spirits about seeing life at sea.

Road Plans Delay as Engineers Survey Summit to Barstow
ND Darling ton chairman of the state highway commission states the type of road cannot yet be announced. Engineers are in the field conducting preliminary surveys and work will begin once deeds are filed. The road is among eight new additions to the original system and will be pursued rapidly to protect citizens' interests.
Telephone Business Makes Greatest Gala
Mrs. Donald Henderson, manager of the local telephone station, reports rising receipts month by month and says last month’s tolls were the largest since opening in Barstow. She cites growing preference for rapid, reliable telephone service over slower letter mail amid competitive times.
