Desert land owners form group to plan reclamation

More than 125 people representing about 100000 acres of Mojave desert land attended a Mojave meeting. They discussed an irrigation project drawing from Mono Lake and Owens River to reclaim hundreds of thousands of acres in San Bernardino Kern and Los Angeles counties. Rail line abandoned south of Jurupa avenue on Brockton line

The Pacific Electric Railway wins approval to abandon service and remove track on the Brockton avenue line in Riverside south of Jurupa avenue. Paradise Mine Shows Great Potential Near Barstow

A Pistrep publication notes Paradise Mine 22 miles northeast of Barstow under Olympus Gold Mines Company Redlands with H. Galeron in charge. Desert Soldier Fred MacDougal Laid to Rest

The body of Fred MacDougal, announced dead last week, was shipped from Camp Mead and interred in Los Angeles on Friday. He survived earlier target practice injuries at Camp Freemont and later faced mumps measles influenza and pneumonia before death. He left a mother Mrs MacDougal sister Mrs Ergenbright of Victorville and Jim MacDougal of Barstow. He was a San Bernardino Elks member and passed a Barstow physical before enlisting.

Base Ball Benefit Dance Draws Barstow Crowd to Daggett

About twenty couples from Barstow traveled to Daggett by machine Monday evening for a benefit dance for the local baseball team. The hall in the warehouse had a new floor and was sprinkled with corn meal, while Ed Hutchison and organizers ensured everyone enjoyed themselves. The Daggett ladies provided excellent cake and coffee, and music was supplied by Miss Elizabeth Miller, Louis Haynes, and Mr. Moore. The party ended around 1:30 with all in high spirits and eager for the next event.

Nels Anderson arrived back today following a trip to the north. He did not report any incidents and plans to resume daily duties at his home in the city.

The San Bernardino Chamber of Commerce visited Barstow by auto on a desert trip, enjoyed a barbecued dinner and a Victory Theater dance, and toured settlements. They observed local dry town status, discussed mining and potash projects in Searles Lake, and noted tungsten mines at Atolia were idle due to imports. They planned future follow up with Congressman Kettner.

Needles to Meet Barstow in Sunday Baseball Clash

Base Ball Sunday The Needles team travels to Barstow for a cross game amid expected tight play. Both sides have practiced well and a large rooting crowd is anticipated as Needles is reputed the county’s best. Last week Barstow beat Yermo 13 to 10 in Yermo.

Barstow postoffice lowers money order and general delivery hours to 6 am to 6 pm with Sundays and holidays closed. Building hours extend 7 am to 7:30 pm for lockbox access. Front post office box remains for outgoing mail.
