British Take New Point At Schwaben Redoubt
London Sept 20 British troops attacked the Somme front early this morning and captured a strongly defended farm 500 yards southwest of Le Sars. The War Office said most of Schwaben Redoubt is in British hands and that in two hours nearly 600 prisoners were taken. The statement noted British aeroplanes co operated with infantry, damaging enemy batteries and attacking troops and transports on the ground with machine gun fire. Ground was consolidated north and northeast of Courcelette and renewed efforts were reported along the Thiepval spur with high ground overlooking the Ancre valley.

In Brookline Massachusetts on September 28 year old Frank Marshall a restaurant proprietor who had run a market district business in Boston for 25 years shot himself at home. A taxi driver reported a passenger fired twice in a taxi and twice more at the Marshall residence. His son Carl Marshall said his father was despondent and police sought to solve the case.

Swanton Woman Pleads Guilty To Careless Driving
Mrs. C. H. Cheney of Swanton was arraigned in St. Albans city court for careless driving and driving without an operator's license. She pleaded guilty, fined $5 and costs for each offense, totaling $22 paid. Elderly Montpelier Man Dies at Home on Liberty Street
Jeremiah V. Babcock, an long-time Montpelier resident born December 1504, died at 1 o'clock this morning after a brief illness at 25 Liberty Street. He was a merchant under Make and Cutler, a deacon at Bethany Church, and a member of the Tethany school work. He leaves his wife Heather, of Boston, and a son. Interment will be at Gren Maant cemetery.
