Washington Sept 25 The House rules committee blocked a resolution for a congressional inquiry into Heflin charges of suspicious activity by members of Congress linked to German influence. Heflin pressed for naming those involved, cited La Follette and Baer, and urged probing correspondence and support for anti war bills amid wartime politics. Doolittle indicated the State Department favored investigation.
Washington Sept 28 The slight wounding of Vicet Lieutenant Howard F. Keating of Philadelphia during an air raid on the 24th was reported by Pershing. The death of Private James Tracy also of Philadelphia in the line of duty was reported.

Colonel Roosevelt denounced Senator La Follette in Racine as un-American and likened him to Copperheads while condemning his remarks on the Lusitania. The audience yelled shame as Roosevelt urged prohibition of wartime German language papers and compared La Follette to Robespierre.
