James P. Hen, described as a confidential aide to a former official, was sentenced to eleven years and seven months in Sing Sing Prison for involvement in a scheme that allegedly moved about $40,000 from an estate. The case ties him to Torgeruts and related ebbelned property.

A head-on crash on the Albany and Troy electric railway near Nassau, 15 miles south of Albany, kills motorman Thomas Loftus of Rensselaer who led the southbound train. His colleague John Murphy of Rensselaer jumped to safety as the northbound car derailed. no other injuries reported.

Mrs Barak Trow Cook widow of Benjamin B Cook of North Barre died at seven o clock after a year of declining health with dropsy. Born November 1824 on Richards on farm North Barre she attended Beckley Hill school and St Johnsbury Academy. She married first to Trow, later to Benjamin B Cook of the iron works firm Smith Whitcomb Cook. She lived in North Barre most of her life, with only brief absences since marriage.
Fragmentary notice lists Mrs Cook Jeavee and brother George Ristardeim, with nieces Richardeon and Seema Star Thomay Wetbnly, at a universalist church service and burial at Eluwood cemetery.
Williston, Sept. 25. George Washington Brownell, eldest and a longtime pillar of the community, died this morning at eleven. He and wife celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary last August, with many friends in attendance. They raised 12 children, six surviving: EB Brownell of Burlington. F Brownell of Muncie, Ind. W H Brownell of Woodstock. C E L Brownell of Chicago. Adelia L Brownell of Beaton City, Minn. M L H Morrill of Williston.
Montpelier reports rapid preparations for the Vermont Teachers Institute to be held October 19 to 21. The opening session at Bethany church will begin at 2:30 p.m. with Mayor Corry delivering an address of welcome and a reception at the state home. Evening program features Rev. Lacine F. Reed at Bethany church. Subsequent sessions move between the state home, Bethany church, and School Street Public School. Exhibits will fill lower rooms of School Street with textbooks publishers and school work from local districts.
Jacob Rupa a Polo man living with the Melmain family is accused of stabbing Mrs Melmain, and their son Alexander, after a Sunday intoxicated incident. He reportedly attacked a girl boarding there, slashing with a knife before fleeing. All victims sustained non life threatening injuries.
Memorial services for Mayor Collins were held this morning in St Marys church on Endicott Street North End. The solemn high mass was celebrated by Rev Joseph Gorman assisted by other priests. The mass was followed by an absolution ceremony with many city officials and the family of Collins present.
Ebert Hympton, the Plymouth actor arrested Thursday on a charge of murder with intent to kill George Martin, was freed on bail yesterday afternoon. Sureties of 5000 were provided by George Monahan and Max Finhacher of Boston, with Max Wischacker as Hympton's counsel. After leaving jail he said he would go to Boston with his bondmen.
The Universalist Sunday school held a plan and corn roast at Caledonia Park Saturday afternoon with about seventy members and their families attending. A grenade event and various games were enjoyed as weather held favorable and a social gathering followed later in the afternoon.
New library plans, including a redesigned layout by architect Pens Varney, were submitted to the Aldrich Library trustees after the lot transfer. Trustees will view the plans this week with all interested parties invited to inspect before council approval.

The Washington Agricultural Society fair will be held at Washington on Wednesday and Thursday. The management aims to make this year’s fair more attractive than prior editions with strong racing. Wednesday features a green race at 1:00, a 2:95 class at 1:20, and a farmer’s race at 2:00. Thursday includes Lopemy at 2:50, a Brad class at 1:80, and a free-for-all at 2:00.
Surprised by friends Jari Marguerite and Kenwood Mills, grandchildren of Mrs Tl Hi Mills, were treated to a sprightly party at 21 Mast Street Saturday evening. About 23 little friends attended with games, music, and refreshments before Marguerite and Kenwood depart for their home in Binghamton, New York later this week as a farewell from their playmates.
Miss Mabel G Wilson was honored with a surprise forty at her home on Efi street Friday evening for her 11th birthday. Friends provided music and refreshments of ice cream and cake. The party ended with best wishes for a happy year ahead.
