Toulon France September 24 During drill yesterday one air turret and hull were blown from the ship killing thirteen crewmen and wounding several others. In Prattlebore a 33 year old East Boston foreman A. J. Riley fell twenty five feet and broke his neck. He died instantly yesterday. His brother, an undertaker in Boston, collected the body and brought it home last night. A married son also works at the dam.
Middlebury College opens with a strong entering class, promising a larger freshman group than last year. New president John M. Thomas, D. D., fosters a reform spirit on campus as the Beansput fund nears full subscription for a new girls dormitory at $75,000.
The funeral of Joseph Bianchi was held Tuesday afternoon from his Seminary Street home. Interment was in Hope Cemetery. Mrs Bianchi was 62 years old and had lived in the country 18 years. Many floral tributes came from family, veterans, and friends including Mr. and Mrs C Rossi, the LA C carnations line, and others with bouquéts and cards.
The Mabel Stimson vs Rutland railroad trial began in Washington County Court. Mrs Simpson testified she has been an invalid since a Vergennes wreck two years ago. The defense denies liability but contests the 15000 damages sought, amid accident details and quarry derrick mishaps.
