Vergennes September 14 John OConnell was seriously wounded in the left hand when a gun discharged aboard a boat on Dead Creek. He had stepped out to pull the boat ashore and a barrel discharged, tearing the hand. He was taken to the Mary Fistaker hospital in Burlington by Dr Willard on the noon train.
The steamship Vig-Dancia reports sighting multiple wrecks in the hurricane’s path off Florida. Ten miles north of Jupiter Light a huge schooner is stranded on the beach. A Standard Oil barge lies stranded south of Palm Beach. A Spanish steamer from Bilbao is broken in two further south, along with a four master schooner.
In London on September 16 the Alaskan commission gathered at the foreign office with all commissioners present including American counsel J W Foster Judge Dickinson and Hannis Taylor. On a Saturday evening officers searched Charles F. Morse’s premises in North Bennington amid complaints of a disreputable place. They found a gambling outfit including a slot machine and obscene pictures. Morse was arrested. He had previously applied for a third class license but was denied due to local sentiment.
Governor McCullough grants conditional paroles to four inmates. Nicholas Guyetts alias Fred Ash of Castleton, jailed for horse stealing with six years total, two remaining. Harry M. Hicks, near Manchester, for house breaking, two years, time due next January. Martin Camarillo of Readsboro for assault, two years, time due December. William Barry of Bennington for larceny, two years, fine nearly paid.
An exciting runaway occurred after six o'clock last evening when Segel's horse bolted from the yard in Winooski. It dashed through West Allen street to Main, dodged cars and pedestrians, crossed the river bridge, and was finally captured at the brick yards on the lower road. No horse or wagon was injured.

Northfield September 15 The annual Dog River Valley fair opened this morning under perfect weather. Cattle droves fill the grounds and racing entries are arriving. Prizes for rain have been increased this season. Special excursion rites will be run over the Central Vermont with festivities guiding visitors to the fair. The Dolph Band will provide music as Company F hosts its annual fall dance in the armory tomorrow evening.
Deputy Sheriff Fitzgerald of Montpelier visited town this forenoon to summon additional witnesses for the grand jury in the Peter Vorron murder probe at Hast Montpelier. With these witnesses, the inquiry is expected to continue today and perhaps tomorrow. Mrs. Vorron, widow of the victim, is able to be about the house.
Montpelier Sept 13 The trial in Mary Handall against the Barre and Montpelier Traction and Power Co concluded with the defendant rested yesterday and the plaintiff entering rebuttal. Dr F W Baylies of Burlington testified for the defense to show the plaintiff had panie on her side before the accident. A verdict for the defendant with costs was returned this afternoon.
Montpelier Seminary held a large alumni banquet in its Seals ary dining hall with W. B. Hinkley and Acting Principal F. M. Hawk addressing attendees. The event featured a welcome by the master and reflected the reunion spirit among graduates.

In Montpelier on September 14 at 4 pm the Seminary football team defeated an alumni selection with a 60 point score. It was the regular team’s first appearance this season and they showed good coaching. They plan to play Brigham Academy next Saturday at Montpelier.
