Car Plunge Kills Ten on Ninth Avenue Elevated
A Ninth Avenue Elevated train derailed at Ninth Avenue and 59th Street at 7 39 am tumbling into the street. Ten people died and about twenty five were injured. The switchman’s miscue forced the derailment and a third car plunged, striking Jones’ drug store. Motorman Kelley and switchman Jackson were arrested as the disaster drew responders and officials.

Four Drownings in Cockeoo River Tragedy
Four persons died in two drowning incidents on Cockeoo River yesterday. Keenan, a South Boston seaman, drowned after saving a fellow crewman on the schooner Sadke A. Kimball, with George Jones of Dover and Edward Durkin of Darkin among the other victims. Durkin’s young child fell overboard. the father dived to save the child but sank. Durkin leaves a wife and three children.
