Hammered to death near Carthage in NY unknown suspect
Witertown New York September 7 three county officers search for Hay Farrington suspected in the murder of Patrick Burns near Carthage. Burns was struck by a hammer while his son was away. Farrington had worked for Burns briefly and was thought to have come from New York. A rifle was reported missing from the house.
Gas Street Lighting Demonstration Planned In City
The People’s Lighting Company completed arrangements for a gas street lighting demo. Workmen set up three posts on North Main Street between Central and Cottage streets. two will illuminate as shadows fall tonight. Posts at Central and North Main and at Moleter Place, with a third at Cottage corner. Lights from Wellsbeck Co set ten feet high in ornamental style. Two 16 candlepower lights will glow tonight, burning through about two weeks.

Death at Sheldon Fair Grounds Ends Man's Life
Antoine Phelon of Sees 1 collapsed and died of heart failure at the Sheldon fair grounds while seeking race horses and about to light a cigar. A physician arrived too late. The Sheldon board of selectmen ruled death from natural causes and prepared the body for return home. Phelon, 37, survived by his second wife and seven children.

Granite Plant Destroyed in Bristol Fire
A fire destroyed a granite plant near the Bristol railroad freight depot at 1:00 am. The Muneill Hose Company responded but could not prevent total loss.
