Berlin notes that Germany claimed no intent to redraw Austro German borders by force but would not prevent a spontaneous union with Germany. The Supreme Council demanded repeal of article 61 and warned of further action on the Rhine if Austria’s Reichstrath representation was not halted within two weeks.
Washington announces public release of the peace conference ultimatum to Germany. It demands elimination of Austrian representation in the Reichstag and warns of extended occupation of the Rhine right bank if Germany fails to comply within 15 days from September 3. Burlington Sept 5 All Ye property at William Stacy who was found dead in his North Prospect Street home Sunday evening has been left to his wife Amelia L. Stacy by a document purporting to be his last will and testament filed for probate in Chittenden county probate court. The will makes no mention of his niece Ming Enwi LaPavorite of Norton Vermont. The Frontery area holds land in Burlington along Lake Champlain with possible value for summer resorts and several thousand dollars invested in mortgages.
Georges Gaston Quien was tried by court martial in Paris and convicted of treasonable dealings with Germany and betraying Edith Cavell. He was condemned to death. Paris report notes the Supreme Council of the Peace Conference will not convene again before Monday.
Franz Ontario September 5 The Prince of Wales begins a three day excursion down the Nipigon River in search of speckled trout joined by two Indian guides from Chief Shi-Witagun’s and Red River tribes. Royal party travels along Algoma Central rail line taking stops to hunt game along Lake Superior shoreline. Last evening near Cemetery Crossing a Vermont express truck from Morinville Vermont to Boston overturned. Mr and Mrs Alec Cohen and family were aboard. Mrs Cohen was seriously injured and taken to Margaret Hillbury hospital. A small child was bruised but escaped, and a crate of food stalls scattered on the highway. Police and ambulance responded. a light wreckage was cleared by bystanders.

The Navy department announced that King Albert and Queen Elizabeth of Belgium will travel to the peace conference aboard the George Washington. The liner is undergoing minor alterations in New York before setting sail to Antwerp.

W H Miles owner of a long running general store at Graniteville sells to E N Aldrich who will take possession Oct 1. Miles, a respected Barre Town figure, served as town clerk postmaster selectman and in the Legislature. He resigns as town clerk and treasurer effective Oct 1 with no immediate plans.
Miss Marjorie A Cullen daughter of Mr and Mrs Edward Cullen wed Edward J Emmons of Morrisville in Waterbury with Rev George Ho Locke officiating. The couple’s home ceremony featured ferns and hydrangeas arch, a pink decor dining room, and a large decorated cake. Attendants included Miss Beulah Edwards and Edward Mons. guests from Morrisville and Montpelier attended before a motor trip to White Mountains and Old Orchard prior to settling in Morrisville.
The Middlesex accident of September 1 shows both drivers blaming each other. BE Elliott of Warren and Gilbert Violette of Websterville owned the cars. Each side claims the other driver caused the collision. A separate Woodbury incident involves a wagon injuring a horse and rear-end action near Randolph reports a driver nearly hitting a child.

Charles M. Howe longtime Barre resident and deacon of the Congregational church died at his Beckley hill home after an 11 month illness. Born January 1 1851 in Cabot he worked as a farmer, in Hoadley bakery Gaylner Mass and Stone & Wyman chair works before settling in Barre. He married Flora Kirk in 1900, later farmed Beckley hill, survived by wife, son James and daughter Marguerite, plus several siblings and extended relatives. The service and burial details were to be announced.
