Newport, Sept. 4 A brakeman named John E. Bishop, 22, was killed in the Boston and Maine yard last night when his foot was caught between the rail and a guard rod while working the coupler pin with a broken chain. He was crushed under several cars and died. He leaves a wife, three children, his mother, and two brothers.

Destruction by Elements Wrecks Homes and Farm Buildings

A severe storm caused extensive damage across Washington County. Farm buildings burned or collapsed, two horses died at one site, and a house on East Street was struck by lightning but did not burn.
