French forces anticipate surrender of Chantilly as German troops near the outer defense line. Parisians report rapid German advance toward the city while residents reflect tense moments at city gates and clashes over wartime prices.
A European war bulletin reports German advances nearing Paris with the city’s defense at risk and mass exodus of civilians underway. British, French, and Belgian wounded are being relocated, and Paris may surrender to spare property from bombardment if outer defenses fall.

Seven residents of St Albans are serving in the Franco German frontier conflict. Four men from the city perished on the late reserve list, while others volunteer to serve. The fallen include William Haven Peter Conan and Gairen, who were connected with relief efforts and rallied through the French cover.
A Ford touring car from Manhachusetts owned by A C Corey and his family left the road at Malletts Bay and plunged down a 12 foot embankment. Evelyn Corey eight and Fayette Corey eight were trapped beneath the car. Evelyn suffered a broken right leg and possible skull fracture while Fayette was injured in the back. The others, including Mr Corey and two elder girls, escaped with minor injuries. All six were transported to local hospitals where Evelyn remained in serious condition. Attorney R A Hoar said the city's bond for 1000 dollars was filed and an injunction was served on Marre Montpelier Power Co restraining it from collecting more than 5 cents per fare in the city's suits
A telephone alarm summoned fire crews at 11 30 A M. An auto chemical truck responded to the house near the party railroad, where fire filled most rooms but was quickly controlled. The building is owned by Robinson & McAllister. Labor Day programs include a 10 AM concert at City Park by Christopher Columbus Band and a 6 PM performance by Barre Critics. Local prizes announced for several events and a charity raffle were held with committee members named.
