Train derailment near Kanawha River leaves seven dead
In Charleston West Virginia on September 2 a Chesapeake and Ohio local passenger train No 6 derailed a mile below Kanawha Falls as it rolled toward the Kanawha River. Seven people died and 17 were injured including Allen Javing a Hinton law student at West Virginia University serving as express messenger and C. C. a telegraph operator. The accident was caused by spreading of the rails.
