Middlebury Sept 1 The Addison county fair drew about 14 000 onlookers as Plucky Chap won the five heat 2 34 trot after the 1 15 opening. The Only One and William Bing chased the 8000 purse. In a 2 17 pace Princess Nellie rallied to secure several heats for purse 4000 while Lady Gamage won the 2 20 event. Numerous other horses and handlers are listed among the participants.
A linen shower honored Miss Lena Pitkin of Jefferson Street at Miss Roberts home with Misses Lillian Roberts and Gertrude Mackie hosting. Friends gathered from ages 10 to 17 in a cheerful party to celebrate Miss Pitkin’s engagement to Frank J. of nearby church town. The evening featured games, music, and refreshments.

Burlington Sept 1 The sailors of the Hiret Vermott infantry returned yesterday from Strattleboro where they were tired early after starting for the Mexican boundary. They were assigned to the barracks of Ethan Allen and Carper. Gates has been abandoned. An order from the War Department forbids discharge of college men and teachers as of September 1. Colonel William A. Simpson adjutant of the department of the East confirms no discharges on account of students. All prior orders discharging students are revoked. The militia left behind only frame offices and tents. the camp will be dismantled unless told otherwise.

Berinia TrIe y, 48, a widower, suffered a fractured arm a broken jaw and internal injuries at the United Marble company plant in Rutland. He was found unconscious in the engine room after not sounding the whistle to call workers. Clerical notes say his clothing likely caught in shafting as he was whirled and thrown to the door. He is hospitalized with severe internal hemorrhages.

Rules require indoor and outdoor public events to bar under 15. motion picture houses theaters to exclude under 15. infantile paralysis areas may bar under 12. Rules stay in force September 1916.
Elmore Sept 1 Daniel Pilbin jailed in Hyde Park for assault with intent to kill and aiding officers. A warrant followed his brother Charles after he allegedly assaulted Wilson Vigeant and Emily Vigeant at their Morrinville home. Pilbin fired at Vigeant, bullets lodged in bedclothes and wall. Officials found Pilbin asleep, to be heard in Morrisville. Charles Pilbin then accosted Vigeant on a road later that night.
Harold M Brush and Anna P Davis wed at the uncle's home in Stowe on Wednesday in Northfield. The groom Marold Mortimer Arash is son of Mr. and Mrs. Brush and brother of Mrs. Morrill.
