Chicago dispatch reports stenographer Maude Reese murdered as she entered her Evanston avenue flat. A burglar fired a bullet through her heart and escaped via a window. Another item notes Midshipman Merriwether of Lafayette on trial for manslaughter after a naval accident.
The American Federation of Labor debated abolishing souvenir books at union labor events. Delegates docked graft and corruption claims against smaller unions and urged a ban. President Gompers defended the Federationist as editor and denied widespread profiteering. William Ran ph was praised as a friend of labor.
A fire at the Sun Dial Inn in Bedford on November 2 left one man dead from smoke inhalation. Firefighter Edward retrieved the victim from the burning building after three hours of rescue efforts. proprietor Kinbedunz and local baseball pitcher Walter Shan néton Kurmmer escaped unharmed by ladder.
Rescue teams recovered two bodies after a submerged disaster in the area. Authorities report an ongoing search for additional victims while continuing to assess the scene and coordinate with local agencies.
Burlington November 92 Meryer Hart was brought before city court on a fraud complaint by State's Attorney Sherman for obtaining money under false pretenses. A theater fire on Haverhill street caused by an overheated stove forced a crowded school to evacuate. About 400 girls leaped into nets to escape as alarms sounded. ten students were injured and taken to hospital. Fire contained with minor property loss.
Joseph Castonia, a 20 year old stone cutter from a Leingf home, drank crystallized carbolic acid in an upstairs tenement. His wife found him convulsing within half an hour and a doctor failed to revive him. He left a wife, no children, and belonged to the Modern Woodmen of America camp.
A gas explosion in Toston on November 23 blew a manhole cover high into the air at the corner of Wheat Warren streets. The blast wrecked the street around the hole but caused no further damage or injuries beyond a scare.
State's Attorney H D Iyder of Bellows Falls has continued the case of Lex Yor eBereeee Tata to avoid home town embarrassment and to spare witnesses from testifying in Brattleboro.
In Mowplis Tennessee on November 28 a Black man identified as Dave Sha confessed to an offense and was fatally harmed by a mob of about sixty. Authorities and two posses had been pursuing the suspect since a prior shooting near Clarkdale.
A noon blaze at a St Johnsbury house occupied by Charles W. Steele and family and Grafton Sanderson spread before the fire department arrived. Insurance coverage of 3000 dollars on the Cushman home in Boston and furniture policies for Steele and Sanderson were in force. Steele had recently purchased another property and planned to move there.
St Albans Vermont November 2 The Centralia railroad headquarter man F W Baldwin is promoted to superintendent of transportation for the Inter Oceanic Railway of Mexico The change takes effect December 15 and creates a vacancy in the Pacific division superintendent role H L Newton will fill that post and D R Caffey becomes superintendent of terminals Baldwin is a well known railroad man and is credited with boosting efficiency on the Pacific division of the National Railway system

Burlington aldermen discussed buying a new fire steamer and 1000 feet of hose. Mayor Burke urged the purchase and hose addition, while a committee was tasked to handle the hose and defer the steamers decision to the next regular meeting.

A single story frame building separated from others by a yard, with a storehouse containing supplies, caught fire and burned.
A duel left Leen and Caminds wounded with arm injuries. The Int Bea reported the forearm wound to Leen while Baron Guerney sustained minor injuries in the clash.
At Mill Village near Rutland in Ratlam on November 22 two youths skated on a pond. One was rescued, the other drowned after breaking through the ice. A 14 year old, believed to be Trowbridge, vanished and the body was recovered about two hours later from the water twenty feet below the break.
In Putney on Monday, dynamite exploded during blasting near a ditch man suffered serious injuries. F J Robair of this place was struck by a shovel and dynamite blast, losing sight in one eye and possibly more eye damage, with the other eye impaired.
London reports that the International Mercantile company is near absorbing the Aberdeen Line trading to Australia and the Anchor Line, active in the South African and Australian trade.
City obtains an order from Judge Witeon halting changes at Hale's Pavilion until a Friday hearing in Montpelier. Hale claims harassment while insisting the permit allows essential work for the Manhattan Stock Co.'s upcoming engagement, and city authorities say changes violated the permit.
Street conditions worsened by ice and dust from a sol venting earlier, causing pedestrians to slip on Ma Mats Street. Several people and animals fell as the pavement glared with ice, while merchants and city officials blamed each other for not keeping sidewalks clear.
Mark Davie a veterinary hotel owner in Waterbury is in frail health with gangrene in a foot. Doctors fear surgery may overwhelm him as he has been at Waterbury hospital nine years and is in a weakened condition. Mrs Davin, formerly matron at Montpelier Seminary, visited to consult with the physicians.
In Albans on November 22 Tania KB Scott daughter of Richard Scott wed Franke te Wedge of Montpelier in the St. Albans Bay church with Rev Mr Fort officiating. The couple plan to reside in Montpelier after a brief wedding trip. The groom wore a unique plum colored suit.
Berlin reports Wycisk and others have been sentenced to twenty years in Prussian Silesia for conspiring to liberate. In Dauphin County Court, Judge John H. Wharton died this morning.
Miss Helen Burbank hosted a Gleaners club gathering at Mrs. W C Jones home. Guests received cards with riddles and prizes, a dainty lunch followed, music by Miss Mildred and Miss Katherine Mathieson, and a paper on Famous Buildings of London read by Miss Mae Smith.
The Rebekahs of district seven gathered at Ni Harr Cabot Waterbury Randolh East Plaintieht Williantowt Woitefield to attend their annual meeting. Delegates from every lodge attended and from near Montpelier. Welcome address by Mrs Myra Bemis of Montpelier. Unwritten work led by Mrs Cornelia F Bond president of the state assembly. A sumptuous banquet followed, prepared by a committee from Montpelier lodges.

James Fosbre was arrested in Boston and charged in U S circuit court with aiding in illegal importation. Richard Erwin faced a $5 payoff allegation as brokers and others were linked to cross border liquor movement.
East Montpelier resident Th M Farnham was invited by Gov to attend the National Congress in New York. The trip includes a visit to Ellis Island the U S migration station with a regular immigrant’s dinner. Delegates expected include Gov Higgins of New York Gov Folk of Missouri and other notable figures such as Vanderbilt and Belmont.
After a long illness Willan L Good died at four this morning at 88 Brook Street. He was 47, Unmarried, formerly a stone cutter, eight years on a farm, then too ill to work. Survived by two sisters Mrs Emily McRea and Mrs John and two brothers Lackey and Peter Good. Funeral Friday morning at 0 from St Monica's church with interment in the Catholic cemetery.
M Mills of Richford a prominent local figure died suddenly in Sutton Quebec aged 72 while en route from Richford to Rutland. He left a wife, Mrs Jarmen M Hamilton of Rutland, and had just sold his milling business a year ago. He had served in town offices and was then electman at his death.
