British and French forces press Bulgarians on the Macedonian front with a four mile approach to Monastir. Russian troops report clos e progress near Cerna river as French and Serbian forces claim gains in Struma region with captured positions and prisoners.
Sofia reports the German Bulgarian retreat in Derna folding under Serbian assaults. Official word says Bulgarian forces have fallen back about four miles to six miles west of Iven, the last town west of Vorna taken by Serbian forces.
British forces in France report a chaplain searching the Ancre battlefield with Melciers found a shelled trench containing about 400 Germans who surrendered. An initial German attempt to overpower the party failed when a nearby infantryman killed one defender, prompting others to yield.
Paris reports that French forces recaptured part of the village Pressoirie on the Somme frontier, after a day of violent fighting. The war office said Allied troops held off German attempts to advance, with gains limited to the eastern village area while other sectors remained under French bombardment and counterattacks.
In London on Nov 1 the debate over German submarine destruction of British shipping intensified. Lord Sydenham urged a formal declaration of a tonnage policy for Britain and allies, while Admiral Beresford warned of a crisis demanding clear action. Stockholm based After Tidningen reports a Russian munition steamer Barron Breceni exploded off Archangel causing about 150 deaths and 30 wounded. The Brocend and another steamer were destroyed, several harbor buildings and two barracks burned.
Vienna reports Count Teelbaky und Bogendorf died Wednesday after a minor operation for an internal disease. The late Count Tschirs ky, long a figure in German politics, was once called The man who caused the war. He served as imperial secretary for foreign affairs and as ambassador to Vienna.
Berlin reports via wireless that German and Bulgarian forces have fallen back to new positions in the northern sector. The war office announced the retirement of these troops to prepared positions in the region, marking a strategic withdrawal. Additionally, the Greek steamship Barbara and the Norwegian steamer Lakken were reported sunk in early November incidents.

New York dispatch reports Charles Bos Hughes, Republican presidential candidate, will depart Saturday with his family for Lakewood New Jersey for several weeks rest. Republican National Committee chairman William Wilkens will accompany him and stay in touch with headquarters visiting the city several days weekly.
Carranza forces routed Villa loyalists halfway between Chihuahua City and Santa Rosalia. Fifty Villa fighters were killed and eleven Carranza troops were wounded, according to a late report to General Trevino.
Deming New Mexico reports from Fort Bayard say the Fourth Separate Brigade marching to Port Bayard has become disorganized due to extreme cold sickness and desertions. Corporal Hunt of Company 1 First Kansas Infantry is dead and five men are dangerously ill with pneumonia. 46 desertions were advised to Captain Pogram who temporarily commands Camp Deming.
Elias Jungraw, walking near Rutland Manufacturing south of West Street, was struck by a passing train but escaped with a bruised knee. He misjudged the approach thinking it wasRutland’s, then leaped to safety but was struck by debris. no bones were broken and a three to four week recovery is anticipated.
New York Nov 18 railroads announce they have filed suits to test the constitutionality of the federal Adamson eight hour law. The national conference committee says two questions are involved: whether the law is within Congress power and, if constitutional, what it means. They seek a speedy decision to avoid nationwide enforcement gaps and avoid multiple prosecutions.

William K. Greene longtime Franklin County Court assistant judge died at his home in St Albans Town after a period of illness. He was born June 10, 1840, lived in Georgia for many years, and leaves a wife two children two sisters and a brother. He served ten terms as an assistant judge of the Franklin County Court and was a prominent local figure.

Basil Piper, 14, son of Mr and Mrs William Ta e of East Middlebury, was mortally wounded yesterday when a rifle discharged as he trailed companions during a mountain deer hunt about 12 miles from Middlebury. He walked three miles down the mountain after the accident before help arrived. doctors were summoned and he was taken to a local house for transport.
Clarence Campbell, 40, of Rumford was shot yesterday while hunting three miles above the town when mistaken for a deer by an unidentified hunter. Campbell left a wife and two children.
The mountain regions of Orange offer premier hunting with multiple hunters reporting success. Leon Cumings from Barre returned a five pronged 200 pound buck from Knox mountain notch after a single shot. Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Tillotson bagged spike horn deer on the Orange mountains near Groton road. Eugene Hood of East Barre and George Dobbs of the same area each claimed one deer.
Game Warden Parcher fields several deer kills around Waterbury and nearby towns. Mitchell Martin of Milton reported a 200 pound buck, George Bernell of Waterbury reported a 150 pound buck, Fred Grout of Duxbury reported a 10 pound buck, and Walter Irish of unknown locale reported a 1d pound buck. Rufus Preston shot a 200 pound buck in Duxbury yesterday morning.
Arthur Landon, once a Rutland resident, was brought to Rutland by Dr J Derven of Poultney with a bullet in his left foot. An X ray at Dr C F Ball’s clinic located and removed the bullet after a Tuesday night accident while Landon and friend Leon Dewey handled a loaded 22 caliber revolver. Dewey claimed no knowledge it was loaded. Landon will stay off his feet for about two weeks.
Defendent Pleads guilty to stealing several bushels of potatoes from Mwend Hareem of Vereset. Judge Tarler presided as the case arose at the wundspal after a day’s hearing. Jury Trewers testified while Seedy and Ueedy Carnek, residents of Butland, attended the proceedings.
