New York returns show Mayor McClellan reelected by about 3,000 votes amid claims of fraud by Hearst. Jerome secures district attorney post with strong showing. Hearst vows recount. Tammany faces based on machine politics while Jerome lauds anti graft tone.
Draper defeats Bartlett in Boston by 3,116 votes with Eben Draper winning the Republican ticket against Henry M. Whitney by 1,906. Recounts show Draper’s statewide lead for governor and gains in both legislative chambers as the party seizes the Senate and grows House seats.
Arthur L. Yaman chairman of the Democratic state committee says they will petition the count for a recount of the vote for lieutenant governor in the state. The statement assigns authority to the executive committee and notes concern over results.
Philadelphia swept by reform as city returns show a massive plurality likely around 75,000. The city party gains state treasurer J Lee Plummer while Republicans suffer statewide losses. leaders stunned as reform spreads beyond Philadelphia with a 43,000 plus city majority and Berry winning the state by about 20,000. Edmonds sent Roosevelt a telegram praising the triumph.
Louis Fitzgerald, a noted steeplechase rider for W. Gould Brokaw, was killed when he ran onto a station track and was struck by an eastbound train just as it approached. His mount Tiger Lily reportedly stumbled and broke a leg earlier in the Brokaw event day.
St Albans Nov. Mr. and Mrs. FE D Fuller of this city mark their Golden Wedding today. An informal reception will be held this evening hosted by the Monday Afternoon club. Mr. Fuller, age 71 last February, ran a livery business here for about 46 years, said to be the oldest continuous business in the city. His office stood on the lot where he was born. Mrs. Fuller, maiden Marotta, aged about 68, has been active and served as vice president of the couple’s club. They were married at Beaverdam Wisconsin and lived in Whitewater before settling in St. Albans, where both remain notably active in community affairs.
Cincinnati report notes George B Cox conceding Dems won mayoral race by 15 000 and Pattison carried Hamilton county by 12 000. Pattison claims statewide lead around 60 000 with Republican losses in cities. Early precinct tallies show uncertainty and uneven returns from 4 200 precincts and 11 o'clock estimates.
A Japanese typhoon today destroyed about 2000 buildings across the islands. No loss of life reported but property losses are heavy and widespread.
Colorado Springs reports a $2000 county reward failed to reach California authorities after Milton Franklin Andrews, wanted for murder, was found dead. The case ties to Parla Thesie Bouton and the San Francisco arrest that failed to yield conviction.
In Russia at Nasakeirali a seventeen hour clash between rioters and Cossacks results in 105 Cossacks killed. Rioters used bombs and torches amid a brutal confrontation that battered the town for most of the day.
In Columbus Ohio on November 8 Republican leaders claim victory as Dick Middlebury reports Vermont university results and Pattison leads with a 40 000 plurality. In Providence a late breaking note shows Vermont districts returning results. St Johnsbury notes a water system vote at a fourth special meeting with 320 yes against 140 to keep the present setup.
Christine Fay, a young woman from Bae Fe, fired a revolver on Woodsville streets wounding two men, one in hand and one in leg, and firing at a police officer. Burt, 25, Montpelier, was shot in the hand and leg. doctors report no serious danger. Ball’s daughter is said to suffer spells of mental aberration and is being sought by authorities.
Wesley Lewis of East Montpelier was bound over in Vermont city court on grand larceny charges after Sheriff Tracy arrested him. Bail set at 350 dollars. Also noted are exams into mental condition and possible commitment to Waterbury State Hospital for observation.
A woman described as being held up near Montpelier reports she was riding toward Northfield Road when near Monby Farm a two horse team approached driven by a woman. The assailant, a strange man, forced the woman to stop. Both women said the incident occurred before a second team joined, then the hold up man vanished.
Anthony Tomasi faced charges after police seized a shipment labeled Malt Extract from his North Main Street store. Officers recovered bottles, empty barrels, and aging labels from The Bavarian Malt Co Munich on the bottles marked Continental Brewing Co Boston. The state’s attorney questions the liquid’s content, while Tomasi, before Judge Way, was held on selling charges with bail set at 550 dollars. his brother J Tomasi stood as surety.
Over nine hundred tickets were taken in at the Masonic fair last evening, with more than two hundred turned away. Hall seven filled to capacity as people continued arriving in dense crowds. The minstrel show was enjoyed, and the voting contest yielded Ben Brace as top, with many others listed for various positions and ticket prizes noted. Season ticket sellers eye profits tonight and ticket 155 won the door prize.

Funeral services for Mrs Hawley Gale were conducted yesterday afternoon at Willis T. Gale's residence. The Rev. Charles C. Conner officiated. A large attendance gathered for the rites. Interment followed at West Hill Cemetery near Mrs Gale's home.

David Gillispes of Gouldsville, while visiting Montpelier, died near Northfield in a railroad accident. His body was found beside the Central Vermont tracks about five feet from the rail, autopsy performed, likely struck by a northbound train. He was 25, known for genial disposition, with three brothers and one sister, previously in Pydie stores, Northfield.
Waterbury dispatch reports Deputy Sheriff Graves returned from Springfield with FF. J. Dennis, wanted on manslaughter charges. Dennis waived requisition, agreed to accompany to Vermont, bound over for the grand jury, and jailed for $1,000 bail as he awaits next court session. Injuries to Durant alleged as accidental from a dining room incident. prior self defense claim noted.
In Montpelier Harry Le Brooks seeks a court ruling over the Chamberlin estate. He argues a clause in the late Mrs. Chamberlin will left the North Union Street homestead to him after her husband’s death and that the property should revert to the estate and be shared with its remainder. The case moves to the Chittenden county court at the March term.
