A Saturday night tornado swept Bloomfield Nebraska killing twelve people including children and injuring twenty six. Among the dead were Mrs. August Fredon and a child, Frederickson and a seven month old baby, and five of John Spinner’s children. Spinner survived with both legs amputated. Dozens of homes barns and buildings were demolished in the storm’s wake.
London says British troops recaptured the village of Ville eure Ancre north of Morlancourt on Saturday night. The operation reportedly took 200 prisoners and 20 machines with light casualties for the Allies. Field Marshal Haig’s report notes the action involved Aus and British troops and occurred near Hight.
Paris reports that French and Italian troops pushed about 12 miles 20 kilometers along the western end of the Macedonia front. The war office said the movement marked a notable advance on the sector as winter conditions limit battles.

The casualty list also names other officers and enlisted men wounded and missing from the Pennsylvania New England and West Coast areas.
An official American report states two hostile airplanes were brought down by American forces over France on May 1. The statement notes overall day was quiet with our troops in occupied areas and confirms two enemy aircraft were shot down by American aviators.

In Woodville New Hampshire on May 20 15 year old Mabel Coburn daughter of Melvin Coburn of Wells River left home at Mrs Doctor Gibson s on Plea van Street Woodsville and wrote a note saying she would meet them in a better world She drowned herself A note found by Mrs Gibson at 4 am and her shoes were found on the Connecticut River bank near the Vermont side Her dress and bankbook were missing She was seen at 2 30 am in Wells River station with a ticket to Bellows Falls The conductor confirmed the unmanned trip and authorities in Bellows Falls were notified
Three more men from Washington County join the 11 to go to Camp Devens next Saturday on the Vermont quota of 599. Exton Siding of Barre William Johnston of Barre and David Symes of Waterbury now in Medford Massachusetts are the three added after others were exempted on industrial claims by higher authorities.
Paris reports that American gunners brought down a German raider tonight with official word. An accident at a farm yesterday left a farmer severely injured as a rifle misfire caused a limb amputation and subsequent medical complications.
Three weeks after John Hobart was murdered in Middlesex Vermont the State offers a $200 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the killer. Frank F. Tracy and Earle R. Davis announced the reward as investigators express mounting bafflement about the crime and its motive, noting the beer bottle found near the scene may not prove the culprit.
A patriotic service at First Presbyterian Church unveiled a service flag honoring forty three local men serving in the armed forces. Relatives read names as shields were removed, with an organ recital and prayers by Rev. Edgar Crossland marking the ceremony.
Edward Earl Parker a boxer employed at Jones Bros died at City hospital Saturday night from injuries after being caught between two flat cars in the box shop yard. Born February 20 1880 in Allentown New York he moved to Barre then Montpelier two years ago. He leaves a wife Sadie Sumner two children Alfred Wendell and Helen Loraine and his Barre and Montpelier relatives. Funeral from his late home Friday at 3 PM with burial in Green Mount cemetery.
Vermont adjutant general reports Registra tion day for men who have reached age twenty one since June fifth. Pro vost Marshal General Crowder orders statewide publicity and local officials to inform newspapers and towns of the June 5 1918 registration. County details and delays to be coordinated with town clerks and registrars, with minimal disruption to daily duties.
