Newchwang May 10 report says Japanese forces destroyed four miles of railroad inland from Kalehow and captured Commissariats train. Troops departed Kiachow and the Japanese fleet was sighted off there today.
Refugees from Dalay report Japanese fleet suffered heavy losses off Port Arthur on Monday during bombardment. Battleship Shikis Dima and cruiser Asama struck mines and sank, with 780 crew lost on one ship while others were saved. Russian steamer also hit a mine. details remain unclear.
In Birmingham on May 19 the police form a board to investigate the disappearance of ammunition kept at Rhyee son and other depots. Military authorities in Odessa report a great commotion at headquarters as private inquiry proceeds into the matter.
London May 10 The Odeusa correspondent reports the Russian Black Sea Fleet has been ordered to a complete war footing from August 1 with the aim of moving through the Dardanelles for access to the safe nat.
In the London financial district rumors of an early peace in the east swirled at noon today. Securities markets reacted violently while Rosnian bonds showed sympathy to the peace talk. The origin of the report could not be traced.
Tangiers Morocco May 1 American citizen Perdicaris a prominent Tangier resident and his associate Marley were seized near Tangier by mountaineers. Perdicaris is highly influential in Tangier society and his father once served as American consul general in Athens. Government officials implicated in the affair may retaliate.
New York May 19 delegates to the Sunday School convention arrived today after a voyage from Jerse. The vessel carried 888 members of the society and 200 remain for further travel to Europe. China Opens Three Ports in imperial edict inviting world trade. A Fourth Class Postmaster appointed at West Somers New York Mark Samuel Light.
May 11 in St Albans Vermont Central Vermont Roadway Co thefts of freight and goods led to arrest of railroad workers B Perry Moses Calomb and Ben Derick. They pleaded not guilty to trial and were found guilty of petit larceny, fined ten dollars and three dollars costs, bonded for grand jury appearance in September.
Burlington May 1 Aton Harry J B Shaw spoke with Williams at the jail indicating he has not formally become Williams attorney yet. It was announced that Williams has secured Shaw and V Bullard as counsel. Bullard arrived in the city yesterday and met Shaw to discuss the case. The state is ready for a preliminary hearing but Williams’ counsel will need time to prepare evidence.
Burlington notes the new Carnegie library, funded by Andrew Carnegie with a $50,000 gift, has been under construction for years and is now within weeks of completion. Exterior shows hammered granite base, red brick walls, rusticated pilasters, gray terra cotta belt courses, and a black roof.
Castlenton May 15 The Chanogey Barbar place two and a half miles south of the village on the Poultney road burned last night. Owned by J. Pine of Lake, the fire was seen and attacked by Mr Veituhard. Only part of the household furniture was saved. Mrs Pritchard and children were at home while Mr Pritchard was away. Loss about 1200 dollars. Fire is thought caused by sparks from a passing locomotive.
Reports from Bennington on May 15 describe scrutiny of the Chatham division amid Boston and Maine railroad efforts. The move signals Boston and Maine aiming to control Rutland system connections, with Dr. W. S. Webb noted as the Rutland’s largest owner.

Le King and Malootaita wed at the city on Eustarn avenue yesterday afternoon. They will reside in Graniteville. Funeral services were held for Mrs Joseph Gauthier from Williamsport home with Rev Strong officiating and burial at Williamstown cemetery. Bearers were six sons. floral tributes came from family, schools, and local groups including Williams Town High and Grammar Schools and Williamstown Grange.
