A four hour blaze in Albany New York heavily damaged the state capitol’s west wing and other sections. Authorities say the fire caused about 6 million dollars in damage to the huge structure. decisive action by firefighters limited further spread as crews battled flames through the night.
Albany March 29 Fire swept the New York state capitol destroying priceless records. The blaze began in the Assembly library and damaged the west wing for hours. Loss included the state library with 600000 volumes and the million dollar collection. no insurance coverage reported. Governor Dix and state officials monitored the fight as mechanics and firefighters battled the flames and smoke with multiple narrow escapes amid martial law talk.
