New York March 28 Anthracite coal operators say they will move to prevent a work suspension in the anthracite field and set March 1 as the deadline. Operators deny any compromise offer and insist no authority has signaled a five percent wage increase.
In Cleveland on March 28 the operators and miners of the bituminous coal fields referred their dispute back to a sub-committee. The aim is to fix a two-year wage scale to start April 1 and prevent a suspension in the mines beginning at midnight, with discussions centering on Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana highlights.

New York March 28 The Roosevelt and Roenigvelt factions urge Governor Dix to call a second primary after widespread ballot shortages and printing failures mar Tuesday's city and state primary. Duell blames GOP county group. Koenig cites election board and printers. Attorney General Carmody later says Dix has no power to order another primary.
In St Louis on March 28 Colonel Roosevelt rejected a report that he would bolt the Republican party if not nominated. He called the claim untrue and said he would tell what he has to say in his own time. A local note adds that St Johns Court will hold its regular meeting tonight at 7 o'clock.
Lowell, Mass March 26 During a parade of hundreds of strikers the first destruction of mill property since the textile workers strike occurred. Windows were broken at the Bigelow carpet factory and the United States Bobbin and Shutter company plant as stones and ice chunks were hurled. One man was arrested on a charge of malicious destruction of property. no one was hurt. Leaders urged order while the crowd moved back through the street.
New York March 28 Warren J Stone grand chief of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers predicted today that when the result of the strike vote on the wage question is announced on Apell 10 it will show fewer than 250 of the 25 000 engineers opposing the move He said it is significant that eastern railroad representatives have not offered a definite wage proposal and that railroads cannot afford the increase because they are not allowed by the Interstate Commerce Commission to raise freight rates.
Washington March 28 Senator Stephenson of Wisconsin an octogenarian banker and hinderman retained his Senate seat by a 40 to 34 vote. The chamber declared his election valid and rejected corruption charges tied to funds used in Wisconsin primaries. Twenty eight Republicans and 12 Democrats voted to sustain him while 18 Democrats and 16 Republicans found the election corrupt.
A late March fire at 683 Broadway in New York damaged a millinery cloak and suit shop, with adjoining buildings affected. Firefighters reported about 5000 dollars in losses and mounted a three hour effort to control the blaze.

Sheriff Emory, freed on bail of 10,000, stands accused at a town hall hearing in New town in a related case awaiting trial.
Johan E Parwink, veteran sugar trust lawyer, testified he never intended to gain control of the Kennes Raider Ruger Hi Fiing plant. He denied the government charges, calling them five in number and argued the dealings with Adolf Sigel were ordinary business loans secured by collateral.

In Kellingsford and Salmon Falls Maine early yesterday men broke into Boston and Maine hall stations. They damaged ticket offices with hatchets and hammers, tore up tickets, and left evidence of malice toward the railroad. No money was taken and safes were left untouched. Only tickets to Portland and Old Orchard were missing. hammer marks and broken cabinets were found at both sites. The two stations lie about a mile and a quarter apart.

Joseph Ploof was found guilty by Thitterlon county court of assault with intent to kill Burlington police officer Christopher Miles last June. Ploof received a sentence of 11 to 13 years in the Wind sor state prison. he had shot Miles as officers tried to serve a warrant and then attempted suicide.
William Langlois pleads guilty to perjury and is sentenced to not less than a year and a half but not more than five years with hard labor in the Windsor state prison. He fled after bail and was captured in Canada while working as a cook for a railroad crew. sheriff and investigators tracked him down and returned him to Burlington.
The funeral of Larella LaBelle, formerly of Bares, who died in Massillon Ohio, was held yesterday afternoon in Essex Junction. He left Tarre forty years ago for Humboldt Tennessee then Massillon where he worked in building. He died of pneumonia within 25 hours at age 30, single. Remains were brought from Ohio by brother Arthur J. LaBelle. first death in the family. Relatives attended, including Mr and Mrs Peter Labell e, Mr and Mrs Frank Wheaton, Mrs Herodrs of Montreal, Mr and Mrs Ellery Te Belle of Williamstown.
Funeral for Henry J. Smith of Keith avenue occurred Tuesday at City hospital. Service held at Church of the Good Shepherd at 10:30 with Rev. W. J. M. Beattie officiating. Bearers listed. floral tributes from Eastern Star and local church groups. Burial planned in QuincyMass family lot. Second Lenten service set for Congregational Church Friday at 4 with organ recital by Gladys N. Gale and Henry H. Jackson. Members include Great Chorus pieces and selections from Wagner and Tannhäuser.
