The Thaw lunacy commission, appointed by Justice Fitzgerald, convened in chambers to assess Harry Thaw. Attorneys argued. the jury was excused until Monday. Thaw expressed confidence the panel would find him sane.
Col James M Varnim former Surrogate of New York County is killed when an automobile crashes into a southbound streetcar on Broadway near East 52nd Street. His wife and a relative survive. Chauffeur looked away to judge traffic and struck the streetcar. Varnim 59 died en route to hospital. He was a Republican leader and director of multiple firms and societies.
New York reports the Rockefeller Foundation distributed 625000 to Hydeduwow lana institutions after John D. Rockefeller's 32000000 gift. Yale and Princeton each receive 200000, Brunswick Brunswick College 50,000, and Jackson Mississippian Women’s College 28,000.
