Naval Paymaster Missing Amid $22,000 Fund Shortage

Ensign Joseph J Lynam, assistant paymaster aboard the Chester, disappeared a week ago and a navy board found a $22,000 shortage wrapped in a carpet. Investigators say about $12,000 came from the Pueblo funds, with the rest from the Chester. Authorities seek Lynam for embezzlement and absence without leave. He is 35, with a wife and two children in Newport.

Postcard notice tested in Bergdoll case at federal court

Kansas City March 21 federal court at Rosewell asks whether mailing a postcard to Kerwin Bergdoll, brother of Grover Cleveland Bergdoll, constituted proper equal notification of summons. Bergdoll, in a five year sentence at Leavenworth, seeks release claiming no notice to report for service was given. The government counters that service by postcard was valid.

Balloon search for missing dirigible continues along Florida coast

Lieut WooP at the naval station reports the balloon with five men aboard missing since Tuesday may drift with south winds. A naval dirigible with two days of supplies and a double crew left to search the forests of West Florida as ships and naval craft scour the coast. Rutland March 26 Daniel Aussi aged 105 years died yesterday afternoon after a brief illness with a progressive disease. Born in Swan ton December 14 1815 he lived in Pittsford long then in Rutland with two daughters Mrs J Malyne and Mrs A W Farms worth.
