Hundreds of London police were deployed after a violent riot among shipyard workers in Hull. Much property was destroyed and missiles left strewn about as dock hands clashed during the strike. by morning there was no fresh fighting and police remained on duty.
Thirteen children in Lowell Massachusetts fell ill after eating rat poison biscuits found in a burned drugstore ruins near Fenwick street. Several children were treated at the Well Hospital and five remained under observation. all recovered enough to go home except the Shea boy Gibbons girl and three Greek children.
Manchester June 30 Walter J Tray is, ex-shipper and ex-British golf champion, stopping at Equinox recovering from malaria, played at Ek Wanok yesterday and won 3 up with 2 to play over J B HcCoursey of Philadelphia. Matthews and Taylor of the U S G A supported. Travis shot 72, near the course record.
New York June 30 customs agents renewed activity in the Jenkins jewelry mystery ahead of a grand jury inquiry next week. Mrs Helen Jenkins named with prominent men in the probe said she had been summoned. It is expected that several former customs inspectors will testify regarding alleged fraud on jewelry valued at 300000 through connivance in the department.

MONTPELIER M H Daniels of Calais has been committed to the county jail for debts. He owes the Montpelier Plumbing company $110 and has no property with which to pay. The Vermont Poultry association held a meeting in the city court room to plan the December 26 27 poultry show. New officers appointed include Hf C Gilman as halls superintendent TB M Shep on executive committee and William Brown of Barre as advertising chair. The association has about 75 members with hopes to double. The Old Meeting House Association filed articles of incorporation to preserve the meeting house and commemorate events. Signers include Nathan G Williams Arthur P Pratt Willie Belknap Lyman A Tay and Merbert W Mitchell from Bellows Falls. Caswell O Rourke Store opened at Derby Line. articles filed to conduct general mercantile business. Capital stock 400 in 100 shares. A telephone line from Hart Transfer is planned to connect to a new trunk line in Darrelty to Mandhen O. Croton, routing away from high tension lines, with most rights reserved on private properties.
New London Conn June 30 Yale freshmen won the morning race and Harvard won the substitute varsity four by three lengths. The varsity eight preview saw Harvard favored 10 to 1 as Harry Atwood witnessed the event from a biplane over the river.
Boston, June 30. Harry X Atwood completed a record longest single flight in his carter craft. He covered over 76 miles at an average 42 mph, looping from Synantum to Nantasket, Paragon Park, Colmaret, and back, with a stop at Nantasket and a return to Boston Light. The journey included passing numerous landmarks and a delay for gasoline before resuming the route along the harbor and beaches.
Rutland June 30. A man to be brought from San Antonio Texas to answer a theft charge in Rutland. William E Day, 21, private in the 28th Infantry, is wanted for stealing money from a room in this city February 11. State's Attorney Stanford filed the information. John Carnell, 18, brought from San Antonio in May and now on bail, is charged with the same offense. Day, then under sentence for a prior offense, eluded Vermont officials as Carnell was sought. Evidence strengthened after talks with Carnell. Day and Carnell allegedly used assumed names after leaving Rutland.
The Vermont Underwriters Association held its semi annual meet and outing yesterday on the steamer Vermont with about a hundred members aboard. Attendees discussed raising business and public awareness of policies while a friendly spirit prevailed among competitors during a luncheon and evening program.
The Plainfield gathering of about 128 participants, led by State Commissioner O. I. Mirtiy, reviewed the state nursery work and forestry aims. Speakers urged larger state support, with notes on tree planting targets, past plantings, thinning, and future land use as Vermont emphasizes forest development and economic potential.
Vermont Press association members gathered in Burlington for a mid summer meeting with a banquet at the Vermont hotel. Speakers included Frank A. Musgrove of New Hampshire and Wartran of Montreal. Musgrove urged a direct primary and discussed political views and regional differences in beauty and progress between Vermont and New Hampshire.
Mrs A Fernandes Feil aged about years died suddenly on Forest Street near Mount St Joseph's Academy during a graduation event. She became ill and died before aid. Cause given as indigestion. Survivors include twins William and another child and a sister.
Ten workmen were crushed to death and four seriously injured when the Buffalo Water Department pumping station roof collapsed. The disaster occurred on Marfer Avenue along the lake front, burying seven men in steel, brick, and mortar debris. Three injured died in hospital. others are not expected to recover.
Alexander Smith, arrested yesterday on a theft charge involving 86 from Mrs. Pelton, appeared in city court and pleaded guilty to larceny. Inde Scott sentenced him to two months. warning issued that harsher punishment could follow. Two other boys detained for receiving part of the pace were discharged after grand jury talks. parents promised to reimburse Mrs. Pelton.

Funeral services were held for Mrs Emeline Tywaneyl Kiser with a prayer service in Barre and a later service at Plainfield Church. Rev A W Howe presided at Plainfield with music and a large procession from both Barre and Plainfield to the village cemetery.
The Granite Manufacturers and Quarry Outlets associations organize an annual July outing at Caledonia Park on a Wednesday in July. Attendees will travel by fare paid ticket and the event will be limited to members and their families. Arrangements include games and amusements for a pleasant get together.
About twenty five members of Division No. 1 Lawlies Auxiliary and eleven Joombere of Mozi Fier division aided by state president Mrs. Anne age and county president Mrs. Flora Murphy traveled to Graniteville last night to organize Division No. 3. Officers named include President Mrs. Anna Sheviiany and Secretary Mrs. Brady. The first two degrees were conferred by Division 2 Montpetier, followed by a supper funded by Division 4 Hibernians of Graniteville. New lodge aims to meet regularly.
An audience filled Howland hall for a recital by Miss Hlanebe Spaulding advanced pupils. Notable performances included Walter Metiugo Raymond Cave Rosa Lavin Myrle Gow Ruth Adie Marrion Cyril Marrion and others with lively solos duets and dances. The afternoon program showcased disciplined practice and expressive movement by a large group of young performers including Masters Lowell Wendall Crown Merion Jones Raymond Craickehawk Five Bradbury Margarette Currier and more.
The Granite City park race meet scheduled for July 4 was canceled after entries were declared void. Officials postponed races and noted no winners as plans were unsettled due to the disruption.
June events report burglaries in Highgate Center and at the Temple residence on High Street. Thieves rifled Mr Temple’s home and stole trousers, a gold watch, wallet contents, and mileage, leaving an empty wallet on the lawn. At Highgate Station two burglary losses include mileage books, cash, and the station agent’s revolver.
A third accident slowed work as two horses drawing dirt for river filling near the M and W freight depot fell into the river bed. One horse escaped injury while the other landed on its side and could not rise without assistance. The wagoner helped pull it up the bank.
