American forces on the Marne front northwest of Belleau wood launch a heavy night attack after a thirteen hour bombardment. By morning 216 German prisoners are counted along with captured machine guns and other booty. Fierce hand to hand fighting occurs as troops clear the wood’s hidden emplacements.
Paris reports American troops staged a brilliant attack near Belleau wood last night capturing 150 prisoners including a captain. French raids occurred in Mailly-Raineval Somme sector Melicoc west of the Oise Vinly Clignon river and near Chateau Thierry Mont Caruillet east of Rheims. prisoners and machine guns were taken.
In the Alsace sector northwest of Gebweiler American troops hold a broad front in three montes near Hartmansweiler Kopf. The area has seen hard fighting in the past and the Americans report holding significant positions along multiple sectors.
London reports a British officer statement noting capture of prisoners and machine guns in raids around Saltly-le-Sec Pipardy and west of Merville Flamiers. Hostile artillery pressed in Villemur-Ancre Gommecourt and the Bailleul Huzebronck sector.

Primo Terminini, a well known Italian granite cutter in Barre, died in his 60s after more than a year of declining health. He came to Barre in 1903 and worked for Erickson Granite Co. He leaves his wife, three children Marguerite Trovatore and Metba, a sister in New York, two sisters and two brothers in Italy, and was a member of the granite cutters union. Funeral Saturday at 2 PM at his house with interment in Hope Cemetery.
In Burlington on June 26, 402 soldiers of the 210th United States cavalry, from 19 nationalities, took the citizenship oath under Judge Harland B. Howe. British subjects numbered 164 and Italians 114, as Chaplain Louis M. O Connor and Col. Julius T. Conrad spoke to the new Americans before the regiment’s parade and fleet review.
