After a Lafayette and Walker Street tenement collapsed in New York the death toll reached seven with many residents escaping by narrow margins. Victims were children of a single family, while investigators warn of criminal negligence and a prior unwarned unsafe condition.
In Rutland on June 28 a two year old girl, daughter of Antoine Polak, was fatally injured when a heavy wagon owned by Dexter Day and driven by his son Irving rolled over her as she played in front of a grocery store. A passerby warned the boy but the team moved forward. The mother, unaware, found the child after. A physician found the child fatally injured with crushed chest and multiple broken ribs.

Brattleboro June 33 J E Jones and Michael Methin of Boston file in district court a petition for a permanent injunction to stop transfer of water rights on the Black River by Claremont Power Company of Claremont New Hampshire. They accuse J N Wheelock of Claremont and Fred Davis of Springfield Vermont of fraud and of organizing the company to deprive them of rights valued at about 15000, with a temporary restraining order issued by Judge J Martin.
The St Albans town board held a meeting to consolidate supervision of the schools. Jane A. X, principal of the high school, will receive a salary of 2400 plus expenses.

David T. Packard died June 25 after years in Wallingford. A quiet, kindly character, he was respected by relatives and neighbors. He belonged to the Congregational church for many years and fulfilled his duties faithfully. He leaves his wife and a limited number of nephews and other relatives.
In Johnsbury French residents and visitors celebrated St Jean Baptiste Day with a morning retreat and a grand evening display of fireworks. A parade featured the American Legion Fisher family and Catholic parish groups from Newport and nearby towns. Festivities included a high Mass at the church, hospitality at the parish hall, and speeches by Rev J A Boivonnault and speakers from Canada and Worcester.
Bennington June 9 Hm T Cushman longtime clerk of Bennicoma court died at home Sunday night after months of illness. He was 41, a native of Bennington, admitted to the bar but never practiced. He served as municipal judge for two years and was employed as plork of Bennington county court for 14 years.
In Chelsea Washington a new rural mail route will begin service by September 10 with a 19 mile length. The population in the area is about 7,000 and the route will serve Binkethown and So. Bde.
The funeral for Mrs. Thomas Venner was conducted yesterday afternoon at the Church of the Good Shepherd by Rev. C. Y Freeman. Interment followed in Hope Cemetery with a large gathering from Vinal Haven and nearby communities. A lengthy display of floral tributes accompanied the service.
Clyde Wallace died from injuries after being attacked by a young bull. Funeral services were held in the East Parr area with Rev. G. W. Winch officiating. Burial took place at Elmwood Cemetery. Dearests included Clade A, Levtar Sargent, Paul Pisted, and Scott. The orphaned boy was taken in by Mr. and Mrs. Nye ten years ago. Floral tributes came from numerous schools, friends, and local organizations, with many from May 9 and local residents. Mrs. Nye was in Potsdam at the time of the incident and returned Friday morning.
Goddard alumni and friends attended the graduates day with an oration by Prof. Maulsby on The Educational Message of a Practical Age. The day featured piano solos, a reading by Go a Meine, student performances, and a dinner as trustees adjourned to afternoon sessions. The Goddard Prize Speaking program followed with multiple contestants and prize announcements for commencement notes and attendees including local residents and area lawyers.
North Geld June. The Norwich University range hosted a student medal competition. William Schakeweki of Claremont Janethew N. 1 won gold with 100 of 150. CN Harber of Barre took silver with 106 of 150. F. S. Brawe of Middletown earned bronze with 101 of 150. Capt. J. Hy Mears of Bellows Falls defended bronze with 123 of 150.
Windsor June 26 adjourned term of United States court opened yesterday afternoon. Frank Malbrook sues Quinlan Corporation of Boston for advanced payments on various socks. N Brady of Newport Vermont testified Brady acted as an operator not an agent of Quinlan. Trial expected to last one or two days.
In MontyrliER Court on Tuesday night a man named L Gould of Nee reportedly applied for a name change relating to Mrs Maerty after an incident last Sunday night. The matter was set to be considered on Tuesday of next week.
