The Republican National Convention in Chicago selected Theodore Roosevelt and Charles W. Fairbanks as the official ticket for the 1904 election. Theodore Roosevelt will seek a second term as president, with C. W. Fairbanks as vice president. Delegates affirmed the choice this forenoon, signaling unity for the campaign.
At the Republican national convention Theodore Roosevelt of New York and Charles W. Fairbanks of Indiana were nominated for president and vice president. Enthusiastic scenes followed ex Gov Frank S Black as he presented Roosevelt's name. Delegates cheered, flags waved, and a large picture of Roosevelt hung on the platform. The crowd remained largely somber yet hopeful as the ticket was announced and later formally seconded by Charles W. Fairbanks was acknowledged as a strong longtime Indiana senator and lawyer, age 62.
Chairman Cungon called the convention to order as Rev. Thaddeus Samiley opened with prayer. The nomination roll began at 10.99 with Albany relinquishing to New York. Former Governor Black moved Roosevelt to the platform, receiving wild cheers before his late speech. The crowd filled the hall as Black mocked the Democrats.
Harry Shafer, clerk of the Board at Review of Cincinnati and Blaine Club member attending the convention, reported a robbery in Chicago. He was robbed of 61,100 late last night by B. Carter of Nashville, a convention visitor. Police were notified yesterday.
Port Arthur was reportedly attacked by Japanese forces yesterday. The era notes a naval engagement near the bay with Lieutenant Commander Arthur mentioned as involved in a historic visit when the first foreign vessel anchored there decades ago.

The Vermont Democratic state convention nominated Evan H. Porter for lieutenant governor L. McMahon for treasurer Andrew J. Sibley for secretary of state Charles D. Watson for auditor of accounts and named a presidential electors slate with Charles W. Reed and others. The platform attacks the Republican administration advocates tariff for revenue only and endorses the state high license local option law while urging reform of taxation and new laws to curb insurance graft and require weekly wage payments by corporations.
Boston defeated Philadelphia yesterday in a tense AL matchup as Balira? fell short. Chicago edged Cleveland 4 to 5 in ten innings while St Louis topped Detroit 5 to 4 in another AL contest.
The funeral of Jonn Brows the son of Mr and Mrs Patrick brows drowned Tuesday afternoon drew a large turnout. Rev Pathe iee led the service with many relatives traveling to the church and later to St iT for burial. Floral tributes included numerous wreaths from family friends and local groups.
In Bakersfield on June 2 a man named Manilus Baboot or Baboot, a longtime blacksmith, committed death by own action. He cut his throat with a razor after being found groaning upstairs by his wife who then alerted others. He is survived by his wife and two sons.
Granger well known barber and Mins Rove Foy a longtime clerk wed yesterday in Barre. Only close friends attended the ceremony at a church with Cray officiating. The bride wore brown taffeta with a matching rebate. They left by the 6.05 train for a two week honeymoon to Montreal and other points before settling on West Street.
Numerous couples tied the knot in Montpelier and surrounding towns. Starkey and Satbuth wed at St Augustine's in Montpelier at nine o clock. Giles and Hill married at two o clock at the bride's home, then traveled to Maryhald for a visit. Cameron and Sibley joined in wedlock with Rev Alvin Smith officiating in East Montpelier.
At the Retail Clerks union last evening seven candidates ran for officers. Elected were Fred White president and officers for first vice, second vice, secretary, treasurer, guardian, and grievance committee. An excursion committee to arrange Clerks Holiday events was formed. Initiates include Miss Florence Earl and several others. A fundraising paper circulates to support the clerks base ball team practicing tonight.
Fragmentary OCR notes describe a Goddard campus baseball game with umpire F. S. Williams ruling an out at the plate. Players Sneadene Berry Wishart Buchan Wheeler Grant Wishart Dunham Baton Dunham etc.
Trustees at Norwich University elected Charles M Spooner of St Louis Mo as president to succeed Rev Allan Brows. Spooner, born 1808 in Charles Town N H, attended Norwich 1876 earning B S and served five years as law teacher at Washington University St Louis before returning to campus.
The thirty fourth Commencement closed with a reception for friends of the school. A committee of teachers and friends opened the event at 1004 from 6 to 12. Dancing followed with music by Gilbertown's orchestra and a large crowd enjoyed an evening of celebration.
Ruth chapter of the East ern Star honored Mr. and Mrs. Dunham for their long service to the lodge. A reception at Masonic Hall celebrated Mrs. Dunham being elected Worthy Matron of the Grand Chapter of Vermont at St Johnsbury on June 5. Guests included Montpelier members and leaders introduced by Mrs. D.O. Sheplee and Mrs. RB Watkins. Mrs. Dunham received a bouquet of roses, and expressed thanks as the chapter praised her and Mr. Dunham for fostering growth to over 190 members. Doctors performed an appendectomy on Miss Lillian Tussia after abdominal pain in North Hers to Barre. Dr. Chandler assisted by Drs. Lazelle and Ler conducted the operation at Mont ter hospital. The patient’s condition is improving though not yet strong.
Morgan, the third baseman, was elected captain of Barre Montpelier’s baseball team by the players. The announcement highlights his leadership role and position on the squad.
The Central Labor Union of Barre will hold a regular meeting at Carpenteres ball on Friday evening June 24 at 8 o'clock. Discussed topics include labor committee matters and other important business.
