Barre Daily Times highlights and local notes 1920
Barre Daily Times reports on Vermont politics with Harding’s vacation plans altered and Frederick H. Babbitt courting voters through direct Grange and farm meetings. Also notes a tragic baseball incident near Rouses Point where a home run proves fatal, with the Swanton Courier quoting a smiling final moment.
Democratic Uncertainty Deepens In San Francisco Convention
The decision of William G. McAdoo to not seek Democratic nomination clouded the San Francisco convention. McAdoo, wartime treasury head and son in law to President Wilson, was seen as the strongest rival to Harding Coolidge. With his withdrawal, Democrats face a dark horse possibility and a tighter field for the nomination amid lingering war-era legacies and local Barre census notes.
