Silas R Deady aged 51 formerly of Barre died yesterday in Fort Bayard New Mexico. A veteran of the U S Army and British militia he served in two campaigns and in the Pine Ridge uprising. Born June 5 1867 in Auburn New York he spent years in Waterbury and Barre and worked in shoe repair at the state hospital. He leaves a sister Mrs Clare Annnes Badrabie and a military funeral will be held at Fort Bayard.
Charles Alfred Vernon, said to have worked in the ministry of munitions, faces conspiracy charges at Bow Street with Sir Joseph Jonas former Lord Mayor of Sheffield. Jonas, a steel maker, was born in Germany and naturalized in 1876. Case adjourned to Wednesday for arraignment. An official of the government is also said to be involved.
New York reports stocks opening higher on fresh war news. The market showed broad gains with U S Steel advancing amid early strength in industrials and motors. Trading remained active as the session progressed and closed with a firm tone.

Washington June 19 government officials said allowances could be paid to distant relatives of soldiers or sailors if the insurance law is amended. Presently payments go to dependents such as wives children parents and grandparents. Officials explained many service members have relatives who aided them but are not blood relations. An amendment is being drafted to include distant relatives as beneficiaries under the insurance plan.
Peonies stand out in the Harre Woman's Club floral exhibit held in the vacant old town store. Other varieties fill the display with visitors praising the department’s success. Judges include NX Morrison Mia Prank A Walker and Mise Manche J Tilden. The Morrison farm supplies many miscellaneous flowers and greenery for backdrop to rural entries. The exhibit opened Friday afternoon and runs through today with proceeds to the Red Cross.

The Vermont State Epworth League Institute opens June 17 in Montpelier and runs through the week with evening services and lectures by Epworth leaders. Special sessions include Christian service, training from New England teachers, and athletic and recreational activities supervised by Professor Davie, anticipating strong attendance from Epworth league members across the state.

He cites coal shortages, war labor shifts, and financial losses, noting an operating deficit and higher fares yet reduced ridership while freight and frequent electric car service still serve the community.

The program includes opening exercises in form a fifth degree, dinner and social time, readings by Marjorie Weller and others, and entertainment by various members. Plans are set for a community patriotic demonstration Sunday at 5 30 PM. All city churches will be represented with music by band instruments leading singing. Children from churches and North Barre missions form a parade and take places near the band stand after marching around the park.
A pastor Paul Dwight Mate and his wife were honored at Darre Congregational Church in Peas A. Cpease night, receiving a ceremonial gift of $55 from the Kawed Tobie of gentlemen. The event celebrated decades of service with church members and community figures attending.
