Babbitt Honored as Grand Commander in Knights Templar
Burlington June 13 The annual conclave of the grand commandery Knights Templar and the 64th assembly of the grand council Royal and Select Masters elected officers for the ensuing year. Frederick H Babbitt of Bellows Falls named grand commander with H H Ross Rutland as grand recorder and Frank Adams Bellows Falls as grand treasurer. The council elected Deane S Biles Middlebury as grand master. The officers’ jewel was presented to the retiring grand commander Frank B Babbitt. The council voted to buy 500 Liberty loan bonds.

In Winooski on June 14 George Simard ten year old son of Mr and Mrs Alexander Simard of 75 Chane street was drowned in the river near the foot of Chane street while wading with two companions. The river was high nine feet above normal and several hours passed before locals could locate the body.

Subscriptions totaling nearly 25000 were added this morning bringing Barre’s subscriptions to 232480 toward a 420000 goal. Fraternal groups and local organizations pledged support with Iroquois Red Men voting to buy 1000 bonds and Winnett council of the Degree of Pahorahontas 20 toward the bond issue. Knights of Columbus Barre council and J A R post also subscribed, and about forty Barclay Bros employees contributed 3000.
