Madero and party found banquet room dark when arriving. No explanation given for failed arrangements. they returned to hotel after a later search for food. Indignation arises over Governor Chazes’ absence at the welcome and ongoing preparations for the capital visit.
The body of Captain Omar M. Wheelock, who died fighting with Mexican Insurrecto forces, arrived in Boston and was brought to the home of his mother in Somerville. Wheelock disappeared from Boston about a year ago in January.
Pierre Vedrino crashed at the starting line of the Paris to Madrid leg of the Paris Rome Turin air race. The 447 mile course began in Beau mont Arros Frey and Vidert had already reached the point before Vedring’s rough landing near Macon. He abandoned the race uninjured though his aircraft was damaged.
Mrs Susie Fitzgerald of Roxbury was killed in Plymouth while en route to a Fall River wedding. She sat on a box in the rear of a truck and was thrown to the ground when the vehicle turned a corner. Witnesses say the chauffeur was not to blame.
Postmaster J G Brown of Montpelier reports the Montpelier office will be raised from a second dawn office to first class on July 1. Postmaster Strown will receive a salary increase to 5000 dollars. Receipts to April 1 total 4600 dollars.
Three balloonists who departed Berlin yesterday were rescued today in the Weser estuary after five hours in the water. They were forced to bail out to avoid being carried over the northern tide, and the Bremen area search and rescue saved them.
Burlington officials upheld city assessors in taxing university faculty students and staff despite long standing exemptions. Professor Merrill challenged inclusion on the grand list claiming exemption from poll tax and 1000. The charter amendment and university designation are cited to argue exemptions apply only under earlier terms.
In Rosa Colifa, a woman's handkerchief flutter spooked a team drawing a new fire engine carrying thirteen preachers. The engine crashed into a tree as clergymen were thrown to the pavement. Rev Cyril Marreck of San Francisco died from injuries. Rev HW Carroll of Rows died as well, four others injured.

Distinguished men from here and abroad gather in Baltimore to honor Cardinal Gibbons on the twenty fifth anniversary of his elevation to the cardinalate and his golden jubilee as a priest. The civil demonstration is said to be nonsectarian in character.
New York reports champion boxer Joe Johnson and his white wife sailed aboard the Kronprin Wilhelm to witness King George V’s coronation ceremony. Johnson said he did not plan to fight while abroad.

Prosecution targets Fred Duplis over Cyrus Moffat’s death after injuries at Beartown last March while other trials include Robert Mallory shot at Eagle Square works and John Boulger accused of axe assault on his brother. Civil docket lighter with 25 jury trials and 20 divorces.
The Boston Globe reports based on A Maurice Low that in Vermont 9 daily and 41 weekly papers show strong support for the Canadian reciprocity pact. Eight of nine dailies favor it while 38 of 41 weeklies back the agreement, with minimal opposition. The informant notes Vermont readers reflect broader public sentiment though rural areas remain nuanced.
The Bennington playground will open July first with Otis Skeele of the New York City department of education in charge. It will offer games, athletics, and classes in dancing, sewing, and musketry. Five year old William Hunter, son of Mr and Mrs William Hunter of Rathind was run over by a delivery team Sastard. It passed over his stomach but it is not believed he is seriously injured.
Northfield holds an annual prize speaking contest in the armory after the graduation program. The event drew a large audience with high standard speeches and musical numbers by the school orchestra and soprano Mrs. HOF Allen. Judges were Emily Glover Frederic Advants and Janis Walker who announced awards that will be presented at Thursday’s graduation exercises.

Burlington report states June Alexander Bissett attacked his father in law James Hammond with an axe during a Walnut Street dispute. Hammond, an 11 plus year elderly man, sustained a two inch scalp wound and a hand gash. Bissett fled but was later detained by police who recovered the weapon as officers dealt with the wrecked room and related participants.
Joseph Degonyow was found dead in his bed in Bethel early yesterday after two weeks of a severe bronchial cold. His son checked him at 12 o clock and found no change. He was born in Canada about 65 years ago and had lived in Bethel many years. Survived by a son Albert, three daughters Mrs Frank Roppe Mrs William Clough and Mrs Charles Clough and a sister Mrs Dennis Battes.
Henry L Sweet faced a city court hearing on forgery charges and was bound over to the county court in 1000 bail per count. Unable to secure surety, he was jailed awaiting the next county term. The case stems from Sweet and his wife passing checks under the name Allan A Phillips of St Albans.
Bethel announces a week of events starting June 6 at Universalist Church with C Walker giving an address. Activities include a school grounds Thursday June 4 graduation at 3 PM, town hall Friday June 9 commencement and alumni ball, with times listed as 7 to 9 PM.
Rutland June 6 Joseph Clark of Bellows Falls a trusty prisoner at the Rutland jail house of correction escaped while gardening. He traveled about twenty miles on foot before being captured at Pittsford. He changed his clothing at a lumber yard and will face criminal charges for breaking jail. He was serving time for larceny.
St Johnsbur June 6 County court opened at 10 oclock with Judge A A Hall presiding. Forty cases stand for trial nine entered as arrested or discontinued and 18 continued. First case Jennese versus Walter Simpson for alienation of affections came into court in 1907 and moved through the supreme court on demurrer. Howe and Howe for plaintiff Cook and Norton for defendant.
In Havana on June 6, workers resumed pumping water from the cofferdam around the wreck of the battleship Maine. By 1 a m the water had dropped three feet exposing the afterdeck area while the forward port remains submerged. The US collier Leonidas positioned beside the cofferdam to receive recovered wreckage and angles.
Washington reports Cipriano Castro exiled president of Venezuela is believed to be at Gibraltar. The Gibraltar consul orders clarification of Castro’s whereabouts as the State Department coordinates with foreign governments to prevent his return to Venezuela.
Washington June 4. The complete three year study on the United States Steel Corporation by Herbert Smith commissioner of corporations will be submitted to the president within ten days. The president has been briefed on the general outlines of the report.
D Frank Lloyd assistant United States attorney general died in New Haven after illness. He led the customs division of the Justice Department there and had gone to his father David Lloyd’s home last week before death. Also noted: Burlington sidewalk concrete bid by Peter Sheeran at various rates per square and linear foot.
Deputy sheriffs Slayton Morris and Howe raided a River Street house occupied by Marcella Acelo. They seized 55 bottles of ale a full keg a beer pitcher and three whiskey glasses. Acelo was arrested for keeping and arraigned in city court with not guilty plea and Friday hearing scheduled. Bail set at 500. Warrant issued by State's Attorney Ward Carver.
Mrs L M Heath died after a two week illness from appendicitis and complications at 5 am Monday in Bethel. Born in Warren she would have been 46 in September. Survived by her husband and one daughter who died years ago, the family lived in a cottage after moving from their house bought 16 years ago. Funeral set for tomorrow at 2 o clock. Also noted is the rapid decline of Hon A P Kimton in recent days.
Setterberg pleaded guilty in city court this morning to a first offense of intoxication and paid a total fine and costs of 10.20 dollars. An officer arrested him shortly after midnight after a witness on Prospect Street reported a man had fallen from an embankment into the road. The man was found unconscious with a whiskey bottle nearby, had fallen about ten feet, and was brought to the police station where a city physician said he was stunned but not seriously hurt.
Leon Farnsworth the Bijou theatre pianist will be out of action after a woodcutting mishap at his Morehant street home. An axe slipped, slashing his hand and requiring several stitches, with doctors noting the blade cut deeply into the palm.
George L. Darling, Spaulding high school graduate, won high honor. Jane Srn from Medico-Chi Dental College Philadelphia earned second honor in a 40 plus class and received the Starr medal for top clinical standing. She is the daughter of Dr. George V. Darling of South Ryegate.
In Swanton, a special meeting of the school district drew about a dozen voters. They approved a 75 cent per dollar tax for schools while joint committees formed to study a new school house were not ready to report.
