Violent eruptions on Sangute island Batavia Java today unleashed boiling lava down mountain sides and a heavy shower of stones and ashes. The lava destroyed woods and cocoa plantations as reports tally one hundred lots destroyed amid rain of rock and ash.
Two French firing aviators died today near Dijon as the aircraft exploded and flames burst, with witnesses seeing the strapped men fall to the ground. In Tepic the constitutionalists levied 1,000 pesos on the city’s possession, ordering Spaniards to depart by June 6, while Mazatlan desertions increase.
In Whelington D C on June 5 Lewis Case Ledyard wrapped up remarks as the Interstate Commerce Commission began probe into New Haven financial affairs. Attorney Crim for Mellen introduced a letter alleged to shield Morgan while Ledyard denied directors pushed the missive.

In Pritnam Conn after eight minutes of deliberation a superior court jury acquitted Mrs Amada U Lawson of manslaughter in the death of her husband Thomas Lawson found dead in a stable. A trail of blood led from the stable to the house and the case followed earlier charges of first degree murder. The verdict came after a lengthy trial and the defendant collapsed when announced.
Brattleboro June 5 Mrs Char May Emerson wife of Vets Dr Wil Thoms Emerson sues Lina Bardwell Guilford for $3000 alleging alienation of affections and seeks separate maintenance against her husband for intolerable severity and neglect custody of their children. Thomas Walling Springfield Mass sues Harry Pierce Brattleboro for $10000 damages claiming injuries from a collision while crossing the highway at Spofford Juke Inly.
East Barre pitcher Robert Lowry was hit in the head by a ball thrown by Clark of Barre during the East Barre versus T A C second game last Tuesday evening. He showed a dazed state and bled from the mouth but was not fully unconscious. reports indicate a slight fracture may have occurred.
Mrs Mary Garvey of Pearl street returned to the city after visiting her sister Mrs John Sullivan at Hartwick. Swedish Monitor lodge marks first anniversary with a big program in Knights of Columbus in Barre. Spaulding high school and Goddard seminary baseball teams seek a next week game, weathered by graduation week. Goddard faculty host annual faculty dinner and dance in Alumni hall, with Bruce's five-piece orchestra providing music. Examinations at Goddard begin tomorrow. first commencement will be the sermon at Universalist church Sunday. Final doubles tennis in Medford sees Miss Keir and Miss Bishee win six matches. Cate and Hooper earn runner-up status. Various local residents travel to Burlington, Brandon, and New Hampshire towns for visits, business, and camps.
Miss Mary Blomfield, daughter of Lady Lennne Blomfield, caused a dramatic scene at Buckingham Palace by throwing herself at King George IIIs feet and pleading not to use force. She was removed and banned from future court functions while the incident drew a crowd of dignitaries and guests, including several American figures.
A Norman era church at Breadwall in Derby was destroyed by a night fire. Witnesses heard explosions possibly linked to arson by suffragists. The church register from 1773 was saved, while relics remained unrecoverable.

Master Louis A. Skil aged 45 died at his home on Elm street shortly after noon yesterday after months of confinement. Born in Reidport he served as secretary of the Vermont Merino Sheep Breeders Association for years. He was Senior Middlebury from 1900 to 1913 and later visited Daytona Florida for health. Survived by his wife and mother. Funeral plans not yet completed.
Middlebury June 5 The case of Walee against Weybridge drew Addison county court attention. Maine sues Weybridge for damages claiming that in September 103 a hay wagon on a Weybridge bridge was thrown off by a weakened culvert, the vehicle upset. Attorneys Blake and Donaway represent the parties and the breach case continues to the December term.
Harlington June 5 The Vermont Order of Eastern Star concluded its meeting at the Masonic temple with installation of new officers. About 250 grand officers and delegates attended, with 150 visitors from nearby chapters. Next year’s meeting will be in St Johnsbury. Officers elected included Grand Patron Arthur M. Lang St Johnsbury and Grand Matron Lavita B. Cole Bennington. Grand Secretary Olive J. Stowell Brattleboro and other posts filled. Ella W. Weeks St Johnsbury installed them. Vermont has 73 charter chapters and 702 members, up 340 since last year. Visitors included Mrs Elle ny French Orange Mass and Stella S. Schroeder Pittsburgh Pa. grand lecturer absent was Ruby C. Haveley Richford. Nellie M. Smythe St Johnsbury chosen grand lecturer pre fem.
St Albans June 5 The tenth annual school of instruction for health officers closed shortly before noon yesterday after a site a stou seminar. From El Paso June 3 General Carranza said he would not answer the A B C mediators nor issue a proclamation on a northern Mexican provisional government until reaching Saltillo. Villa and other leaders discussed movements toward Torreon and Zacatecas as a Niagara Falls conference stoked internal tensions among constitutionalists. A central military command created by Carranza drew criticism and doubts about Villa’s plans, while supporters debated the feasibility of any plan without constitutionalists participation. In Vlorente Italy on June 5 the court considered extenuating circumstances for Vincenzo Perugia who stole the Mona Lisa from the Louvre Paris. Judges sentenced him to one year and 14 day imprisonment. He has already served time since December and will not face further harsh punishment.
Approximately three hundred men and some employees of the Westinghouse Electric and Manufacturing company refused to work this morning. Union leaders say the company is steadily discharging workers who joined the new union organized earlier this year to secure better working conditions.
In Burlington a sudden upheaval between 11 and 12 o'clock Tuesday morning lifted the Winooski river bed, widening the channel by up to 40 feet in places. The high bank stands about 50 feet from the river, with a 15 foot rise above water level. Local property lines and banks were altered, exposing blue clay land and cracks forming a new chasm. Fishermen fled as pools formed, and a 1.5 inch catfish was among the catch. The event, attributed by visitors to excessive bank weight, reshapes the riverine landscape over nearly a third of a mile.
Franklin State Highway Commissioner Charles W. Gates arrived from Ferm with three civil engineers to review the proposed road as a replacement for the old Penn turnpike. The offer to buy the Burlington turnpike for 10000 has been withdrawn. A survey suggests the new road could be built without the steep grade of the current turnpike.
A gold ring belonging to RE. Percy, the marine killed at Vorn Crim, was recovered from his brother’s effects yesterday. The note, from the Utah battleship captain, states the ring was taken from the dead man’s heart. The surgeon and other officials confirm the recovery near Concord.
In Brattleboro yesterday Frederick Jodoin a single man of Connecticut origin was found dead in his room by his roommate Odoin. He was fully dressed and had been eating when he fell. Relatives have been notified. Dr Henry Tucker determined death from a cerebral hemorrhage.
A class of three graduates and ten in the shorthand course completed studies at St Johnsbury Academy. Exercises were at South Congregational church with remarks by President John M Thomas of Middlebury College on Sufficient Ideals. Alumni banquet followed. gifts include $100 toward a new gymnasium. Several faculty members will not return next year. the principal and his wife sail for Europe soon.
Bellows Falls June 11 to 14 Vermont Federation of Women's Clubs closed with officers reelected led by President Mrs George H Smilie of Montpelier and First Vice President Mrs Reboom Fairbanks of St Johnsbury. Other officers include Second Vice President Mrs Nelson L Phelps of Narre and Treasurer Mr C H Contidge of Mullands. Meeting reported 37 towns represented and 2 delegates, with aim to publish a Vermont federation paper edited by Mrs W L Wilson Waterbury and address dress reform. Next gathering set for St Albans.
Lawrence residents recount a fatal auto crash on a rain slick road near Havertill Haven last night. Ward of the city died when the automobile skidded and overturned. Carliee, owner and driver, escaped with minor injuries.
Principal Co HL White announced the Improvement prize at Spach High School. Arthur Miller of Websterville, grade 14, won for greatest progress in scholarship while overcoming daily distance from home to Barry and back, walking four miles each day, and studying in the English course. The prize was provided by C. D. Mathewson of Lyndonville, former principal and superintendent.

William Arthur, Lamgaret Howie, and Lily Belle Are Ring lead musical pieces with pieces by Henry, Lilian Evelyn Flandees, and others. Abbie Creelin and Moxley present addresses, with Glee club performances and a graduation address by Rogers.

Passengers from the Eastern Time steamship Northland bound from New York to Portland were landed safely after striking Hirsch's reef in fog off New London. New York June 5 The Aquitania Cunard liner the largest British flag ships arrived at quarantine this morning on its maiden voyage. The ship is among the world s largest, completing the voyage in five days 17 hours 43 minutes over a course of about 345 miles. Speed exceeded 23 knots per hour.
In Montpelier city court Sullivan of Granville faced contempt for failing to pay clothing costs, and Fred Washington of Montpelier was jailed for intoxication. Frink Thomas pleaded guilty to a third offense and received 34 days in county jail. Loon Mieryy, arrested in Cirbenfield Mass, pleaded probation violation and seeks another chance. H B Balton brought Thomas and Barney Patterson to court for trampling, pleaded not guilty, with prosecutors seeking proper charges. State's Attorney Carver moved to press interruption-related charges as hearings began.
In probate court at Montpelier Robert M. Veritem is named administrator of the estate of Wilfred G. Hebert. Laurine Mare and Claude Morse of Northfield were appointed administrators of Michael Sullivan's estate. The will of Bernas A. Rowell Averill of Barre was admitted to probate.
Mayor Burke demanded the resignations of Water Commissioner Ritter and Simons amid charges of dereliction and improper conduct. The clerk role was also cited as unhealthy. later Simons withdrew his resignation while Ritter remained under pressure.
