Paris dispatch says German forces pushed the French back from an advanced position near Froidmont in the salient. In London reports the British recaptured the advanced post near Chernay taken by Germans on Saturday night.
British headquarters report fierce fighting south of the Souchez river with heavy enemy counter attacks after an initial success. They say 92 prisoners were taken, patrols east of Laventie yielded several captures, Wytschaete raid netted 16 prisoners, and air operations left four German planes shot down with five driven down out of control.
A United States commission led by Elia Root departed from a Rongyen port via Tokyo and reached Petrograd en route to Moscow. They expect to arrive in the Russian capital on June 11 after calling on local officials.
Petrograd reports Kronstadt garrison sailors who declared independence arrived in Petrograd to press for representation and to rally support from ships at Kronstadt. They threatened further action on an island north of Petrograd and demanded the former emperor Nicholas be handed over.

A related charge against Gerald Winchester was not pressed. Arrests occurred at the old Guilford hotel in Brattleboro with 30 quarts seized. Winchester paid $500 and served four months on a similar prior charge.
Boston authorities arrested Johm McKaye today charged with attempting to influence or recruit young men for the government draft. A preliminary bearing was held for Markie and Stanley Collis along with about 100 others.
President Wilson sent the U S war aims to the new Russian government. Ambassador Francis delivered the message to Petrograd and it will not be published here or in Russia for a day or two while Russia sorts out details.
